Is a file made of Chromium Steel any good?

I have a Swiss Vallorbe-Grobet (?) file that is made from Chromium Steel.
Is this just another kind of carbon steel? Can I make a knife out of it? Can it be HT ?

Should be a good one to make a knife out of, yes. Kind of expensive, those Swiss Grobet files. I'd be sure that file already worn out first.

It think it would work great as a file..........but should not be used as a knife, HT would require a special oven and foil packets. Consider as High Speed Tool Steel or D-2 in HT.
