Is a folder on a neck thong a "neck knife?"

Just curious. My son wears one and I'm wondering if it would be considered a neck knife legally. Neck knives are illegal in CA.

It's illegal to carry a knife in a neck sheath in California? I had no idea.

That would probably end up being a "test case" if an officer stopped him and wanted to charge him for carrying it. He might consider looping the cord on which the knife is carried through a belt loop or his belt, resulting in a "static cord" carry. It would do the same thing but remove any concern about the neck carry issue.

I believe any concealed knife is illegal here. But there is no blade length limit Tell your son to use the pocket clip.

It depends on where you live and length. Where you live might give you further limitations, but AFAIK, in CA, without local considerations, carrying a folded knife in a neck sheath is not illegal as long as the folder is completely concealed, and not automatic.

As far as I know, what is illegal in Cali is concealed fixed blade knives. If it's folded, and under 3" (only some counties have a length limit, not the state), it should be ok on a neck holder.

If it's a locking blade folder carried open in the sheath, this would be frowned upon.
