Is a Kabar USN Mk2 considered a Scandi grind knife?

I was digging around in my safe and found an old Kabar USN Mk2 that I had purchased at a gun show a long time ago. I threw it in the safe and it's been there ever since. I decided to give it a good edge as long as I had it out and realized that the blade profile is quite similar to my scandi ground knives.

Is this knife considered a scandi grind? It looks like it is.

That IS a saber grind, specifically saber-flat (you can have saber-hollow or saber-convex too). It would be scandi if there were no secondary edge bevel. You could make it a scandi grind, but it's a bit cumbersome for dedicated bush crafting.

Ya that's definately a saber grind not a scandi.

The difference between the two is slight but basically I agree with what t1mpani said, if there was no secondary bevel it would be scandi ground.
It starts to get confusing when you put a secondary micro bevel on a scandi grind because you would think that would make it a saber grind. I find it's best to decide that kind of thing with common sense instead of technicalities though.

Thanks for the replies, fellas. When I pulled the Kabar out it looked a lot like the grind on my Helle Taiga.

I'd forgotten how big a knife the Kabar was. After using 3"-5" long blades, it would take some getting used to for general camp duty, although the knife itself could handle just about anything you'd care to do with it. It's a serious piece of steel, for sure!

I just finished putting a nice edge on it. I'm going to try it out by making a few feather sticks, notching and such, just for kicks.

Dittos, I'd call it a saber/flat grind that I feel is just as easy to sharpen like a scandi..

Cheers,
Serge

Just curious, but is that a "Kabar" proper, or maybe a Camillus? Reason I ask is that it appears to have a 3/8" pommel with a pin...or is that just the way it photographs?

It has Kabar stamped on the blade side of the hilt. The other ear of the hilt is stamped USN MK2. The pinned pommel is a little better than 1 1/4" in diameter.

The sheath is stamped:

NORD-8114
B.M. Co. 1/6 VO
