Is aftermarket support important to you?

I got this idea from gun guys who absolutely have to trick out their Glocks and 1911s just enough to make Theseus's ship blush (and that's perfectly fine!). Do you have the same mindset towards knives? Let's say scales, clips, kydex sheaths, perhaps even reblades for folders.

It's cool sometimes, some makers that's their shtick.

But I don't look for this in my spending, just an added bonus if it's there.

Example, Freeman 451, can swap scales out easily and it looks like a whole new knife.

nope. dont change stuff, but don't mind its there....for those who do.

edit part.....I do like becker micarta grips they sell to replace the plastic ones.
Indeed, I’ve seen a lot of beautiful Becker grips out there. Red micarta looks really nice on a black blade.

More so for guns , for knives pretty limited .

A few custom kydex sheaths for fixed blades and some snaggletooth wave mods for my Cold Steel folders .

I'm not much for "accessorizing" my knives or really firearms either; and what improvements I make to firearms are always for function not form. I have a number of pistols that have been milled for Trijicon RMR's but that isn't flash it is all about function and performance (don't want to get too into the weeds on that one); but also extended baseplates etc - I don't personally go for fancy colored triggers etc; but I do put a Geissele trigger in all my rifles. For knives, I am not much of a bling guy, don't do lanyards, fancy scales or anything of the sort; I value actual OEM support over aftermarket. In thinking about it, the only knife that I have changed anything on is my XM-18, I swapped the OEM G10 scale for micarta; I don't really care for the Hinderer G10 and I am a sucker for micarta but again that is due to the feel and not really about the looks.

Not important to me at all. If I want something customized I will either figure it out myself or hire a craftsman to do it.

I wouldn't have bought a BM Bugout or Mini Griptillian without the replacement scales available. Deep carry pocket clips....... great option either thru maker like Benchmade or aftermarket.
So I buy aftermarket and make the knife more to my want.....

Depends on the knife, for me. Generally, no, I buy knives that I like as is, but there are some that I think, "Man, that seems solid, but how great would it be with micarta scales?" and in that case I might only buy it if I know I can get some from a reliable, reputable source.

Depends on the knife some I buy with every intention on adding a clip or scales others I plan to keep as is.

I have after market clips on a few knives and it’s greatly enhanced my experience with them.

That’s about it.

No. Only one of my knives is modded. I bought an Endura with micarta scales off the exchange here to try something other then the normal Spyderco FRN (which I like btw).

No deep carry clips, no after market scales, no anodized Ti hardware, etc. I even stopped making and carrying little lanyard fobs for my pocket knives. I went thru a little phase of lanyard building a few years ago.

Like others, I'm content with the knife as is and I don't purchase knives with the intent of modding them.

I think the difference is that fewer of the knife mods/after market aspects are functional and mostly aesthetical however gun mods are more often a mod that does have a functional impact

Oh jeez here we go.
