Is Amazon an authorized seller of all things Spyderco?

Don't buy Spyderco's on Amazon. Plenty of other dealers out there where you know you're getting an authentic Spyderco.

I recently purchased several knives on Amazon, as best as I can tell they are legitimate. But I didn't even consider getting the expensive ones there, and won't.

I find it funny how people always seem to talk negatively about any retailer that does such a good job they grow into a very large very successful business with great service great selection and great prices. Damn them for succeeding and being too competitive!

my complaint isn't the low prices or fast shipping, or their huge success as a business, or anything in that manner etc. i think it's great people cans till do this in america.

it's the fakes that are out of control. it's one thing when someone goes to whatever Chinese website and buys a fake knowing they bought a fake and for low dollars. they got what they wanted and paid for. not going to argue the argument of fakes, not the point of this post.

it's another thing when someone pays top dollar maybe a handful of dollars less and gets a fake advertised as real from amazon sold and shipped from amazon..... which does happen and too often. amazon has some real big issues to deal with and it ain't just knives. it's all products they sell. that is the part i don't like about amazon. in fairness they are very good at refunding your money and making it right, but if you aren't an expert and paid 20 bucks less on a 120+ dollar item....there is nothing that obvious going on for someone who isn't an expert. legit solid knife dealers can be that far apart in pricing on items like that or more sometimes. plus amazons job is to sell you the right product they advertised and supplied.....3rd party stuff is a bit different so i won't digress into that for the sake of keeping the point more simple and less watered down.

in the end spyderco says themselves we can't guarantee you'll get a real spyderco product on amazon, cause they buy from us and other sources....... that says it all........

Here's a good example of that:

the purchase from other sources says a lot and explains many issues amazon is going to have to deal with eventually.

By other sources they mean authorized Spyderco distributors, the same distributors that all the other knife retailers purchase from. Amazon does not conduct business with just anyone, they are extremely strict on who they use from suppliers as any retailer should be. 3rd party is a different story.

As far as "Shipped and sold by Amazon.com LLC" products go, the fake knives issue is brought on solely by devious customers.

im sure you know, but shouldnt spyderco then say...since amazon only buys from us and authorized distribution you can feel safe youll get a real spyderco product? why isnt spyderco saying some thing like this?

Regarding the statement from Spyderco, I interpreted it as being in reference to all Spyderco's sold on Amazon.com, including third parties and "Fulfilled by Amazon" items.

Amazon.com LLC does not purchase fakes, period: Many fakes do make it into their inventory due to their lenient return policies.
I don't know how I'm supposed to prove that to you, but I can say from experience that without a doubt Amazon.com LLC has the some of the most stringent requirements of their suppliers.
They have entire legal teams and loss prevention teams to ensure that the products they receive from suppliers are above-board and genuine.

^ill take your word for it, thanks for educating us all. appreciated.

I'd always figured a purchase from Amazon that was fulfilled BY Amazon, not any of their third parties, would be legit. They tell you up front during the order WHO is fulfilling the order for your selection.

I'll admit the "buy real, return a fake" thing hasn't occurred to me in the whole thing.

I've been fortunate so far that my Amazon purchases have been legit. Being a Prime member, with the free two day shipping you get with that, has been a swaying factor in those purchases, not pricing (usually)- now the consistent pricing I've seen at various online shops makes sense. Often Amazon has the same price I see from them, at least on items I've been looking at.

But Amazon is also a few bucks cheaper on some items, and the adherence to MAP, now that I've been educated about that, doesn't seem to be necessarily strictly enforced there.

Kinda like Glock does, I guess.

All comes down to whether the manufacturer is willing to dig far enough into their distributors transactions to confirm compliance. I know of gun shops who've been cut off by Glock for selling lower at lower prices than Glock allows. I'd guess Spyderco would do the same given enough evidence.
