Is anybody interested in blades only?

As I do from time to time, today I received a request from a pal and customer asking me if I could get him 3 or 4 blades only. He wants the blade forged and hardened and that's as far as he wants Birgorkha to take it. He wants to do the rest himself.

Are there any others who are interested in getting a khukuri at this stage of the process? Figure at most half but probably closer to 1/3 price for these blades.

If we can get a dozen or so takers we'll do it.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle Bill, thanks for starting this thread. I am very happy and surprised to have this forum, where we all could share our hobbies. Thanks again everyone and this will be a good thing for everyone. International collaboration for a Khukuri. Uncle, I sent you an e-mail for the ist of blades that I need. Thanks again!

I like this idea but can`t afford to take advantage of it at this time . I hope this will become a standard offer from H.I. Cheers , Mark

Hmmm... $33 to $80 for what I am thinking...

Would we be able to specify which kami makes the blade?

Would there be a guarantee that the blade would be properly zone hardened?

Harry

I better exclude katanas and tarwars. Those are a different ballgame.

We will try to get the kami you want but marking the blade will be next to impossible.

We can guarantee the blade will be properly zone hardened but if it is stuck on a bench grinder and gets too hot the whole thing is lost.

Khukuri FAQ

:
I would like a plain forged and hardened Hanuman blade with a long tang on it!!!

Also a 15" chainpuri blade not counting the tang!! Perhaps 20" oal?

Would these blades be fitted with bolsters? Not that it would make any difference, because I know that a flat piece of brass an 1/8" thick can be fitted in place of the bolster. It looks pretty nice as well although some care is needed to file the tang and blade intersection perfectly flat.

I have been wondering about this myself. I think a khukuri with the as forged blade would really be something. You could grind & polish the edge bevel carefully and round off the back leaving the dark, as hammered finish on the blade.
It would definitely be something different. Kinda like an antique similar to the finish that some smiths are leaving on thier
blades.

What kind of tangs are on them? Are they the same tang for all models? Anybody got pics?

Thanks-
Orion

Interesting concept. Sort of like a kit knife, right? Would have loved to take up the offer, but not right now. And you know why.

Hope this sort of thing gets offered on a regular basis.

Orion, you can get the chiruwa style tang or the more standard rat tail tapered. There are pix of blades only as the kamis have the work in progress at BirGorkha somewhere on the forum.
