When I have friends losing their jobs due to overseas or mexican production facilities, I can't bring myself to buy foreign. That's a lot of folks with mortgages that ain't gettin paid because were not looking out for our own. Just my $0.02.

Not to get into a purely economic discussion, but what about the Japanese, Korean and Germans who lost their jobs because Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai, etc, built manufacturing plants here in the U.S. employing American workers instead of their own?

We sell lots of products overseas too, what about the U.S. jobs created because we export so many planes, computers, chips, software, pharmaceuticals, etc.

With unemployment in the U.S. at historical lows, your friends have plenty of opportunities to work.

Is it me, or is anyone else bothered by the fact that the NRA knife from Benchmade's Red Line is made in Taiwan?

I am suprised that more NRA members are not annoyed that a product bearing the name of the leading organization for firearm freedom is made in a land where gun possession is highly restricted and can get violators severe penalties up to (I am not entirely sure of this- so don't quote me) the death penalty.

Thoughts?

I'm an NRA Life Member and am not surprised or disappointed about the NRA knife. Not when the official U.S. military sidearm is a "Beretta" 9mm. I'm sure NRA shopped around for the best deal they could get for their members.

Hey, where is Seiki Japan where all the Spyderco knives come from? And the Toyota, the most popular car in the U.S.A. is made where? And where was that fancy new large screen TV made?

Many American's are involved in the shipping, sales, and repairs of these items. The cost of manufacturing is often just a small part of the final sales price.

It is a small world after all!

Not really, the NRA is pretty much an agenda driven political machine that doesn't really give a hoot about its members. Its concerned about making money and handing out that money to a bunch of politicians who will gladly take money from anybody. They've got to feed the machine. Its just Yin to the Yang of the nutjob antigun lobby. You can't have meaningful political discourse, so the NRA and the antigun lobby spend all their time and money just smearing one another. Politics as usual.

That is so much cr@#!, IMHO.

So I take it you just posted using a $75 computer?

Not similar at all to a pocket knife. With a knife, fortunately we have lots of choices. You can find a 100% made in (insert country here) all over the place. I think Jonshoup's point was related to KNIVES, which if ya got $100 to spend are you gonna get that ONE Made in USA Benchmade, Spyderco? Or maybe TWO CRKT's Made in Taiwan? , How about FIFTEEN Made in China cheapies? No wrong choice here, get what you want. The point is that there is a choice.

Alot of Spydercos are USA made.
My Beretta M9 (US Military Sidearm), M92 and M96 are Made in the USA.
Toyota builds the Corrolla at factories located in Canada, Japan, and the United States....

Let's look at Camrys, shall we?

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/toyota/camry/100395308/specs.html

Where in the U.S. is the steel made and who fabricates the parts? Who machines and assembles the engines? Where is their corporate headquarters located?

What kind of Firestones on those Toyotas? It is the most popular car sold in the U.S.

Where is the U.S. design headquarters for Beretta.

They may be assembled in the U.S. etc. Like I said it is a small world with many different countries adding something to the good of all, IMHO.

I was just answering your first set of questions. I dont know the answers to these new questions. I like to keep things simple. If we are going to go the route of "Who's engineers designed the microprocessors that run the Operating System (Designed By?) that runs the Cad software (Designed By?) that Beretta used to design the gun parts that make up the M9?" then you've lost me, because I dont know.:)
