The knife was the cause of death. Yes it had an impact.
Without him carrying it as a weapon (not a tool) we would not be having this discussion or would have a different scenario altogether. Despite that others carry them responsibly, he did not. The case cannot be judged on the number of persons who did NOT commit an alleged crime regardless of how the weapon of choice is denigrated by the prosecution. If it cannot be shown otherwise, he carried the knife primarily as a weapon. His mindset when confronted was 'I can do something. I have a knife.'
