Is Bark River worth the $$?

You're not going to beat HI for the price/quality/chopping performance balance. However, Bark River knives are very good and excellent values. I have a Little Creek, which Old Physics posted a picture of. The G10 handle is a bit slick, but it fits in the hand nicely . The lack of a guard and the curved under the index finger are a bit worrisome - you don't need a guard much, but when you need it you NEED it. This may be less of a problem in the larger models, where the blade is wider and that finger ramp is wider as well. The Little Creek specifically is a handy knife - good for fine work, but with a thick spine if you need to use it hard.

I haven't had problems with A2 - the Little Creek and a Chris Reeve Mountaineer (coated). It won't rust away overnight, but if you're looking for a maintenance-free utility blade, you want something else. I'm not sure how Bark River's other steels perform, but I'd trust Mike's judgment in using them for cutlery.
