Is Black the thickest?

I just got a Black Izula in and after making sheaths with a Green Izula for so long, I find the Black one to be thicker. After close examination at the grind line it does appear to be thicker than the green.

I've also noticed that the black is rougher in texture. Has anyone else noticed a difference between colors?
I do like the black though.

must be just the paint and the way the powder coat is applied ,of my Izulas my green has more texture to it and my Tan one is the smoothest. pink & black are about the same...not sure

Man, that’s a good looking sheath.

Could be a lot of things; different lots of powder coat from one color to the next, applied a little differently to each knife, etc.

That makes me think color is not the factor. Maybe it just varies by batch.

I just realized by trying my other Izulas in the factory sheath that this new Black one is coated so thick it doesn't fully seat in the sheath it came with. It doesn't matter much to me since I don't use the factory ones but it's kind of cool to have one coated so thick. I'd say it's not the norm from ESEE.

maybe since you made a lot of sheaths with the OD one it kinda wore the finish down a little.

Well, like I said, the black one is so thick it doesn't even fully seat in the factory sheath. Also, both of my green ones have always been smoother than the black one is. There is some smoothing on some of the corners that develops from kydex but not the grind line or rest of the blade. I'm going to make a sheath with the black one and see if the green one fits loosely.

well i only have a black izula and i would say that it isnt super rough, it feels fairly smooth to me but i can still feel texture.

I bought 3 OD green Izulas, and gifted two of them, before I did though I examined all 3 blades, one izula had a scary sharp edge that was caused by a thinner/higher grind, the other two were about even with some pretty good edges, also great looking sheath

I'd hang on to it if it's thicker and mold all my sheaths off of it.

That's probably the plan as long as they don't turn out to loose. I also plan on ordering a Tan one soon so I'll be able to test that as well just to make sure.

There should be zero difference regarding color of Izula. All are the same thickness. You may have one that got too much powder coating. Contact me at mike@eseeknives.com Mike

Mike, I'll shoot you an e-mail to give you a better description of the sheath fit but don't worry, it's not an issue to me. It still retains fine and I probably wouldn't even notice anything if I didn't already have two previous Izulas.
