Is bladeplay normal on buck slipjoints?

Just bought 3 of the new Dymondwood knives. Two 303, and a 301. All of them have some movement.

Same here, my Dymondwood 301 has serious side to side play on the main blade, and the charcoal finish is horrible.

It's gonna go back.

The finish on mine are okay for the most part, but one 303 has totally mismatched scales, with one dark brown, and the other gray with stripes. To my eye the blades look a little thinner on the new ones compared to the 301s that I have in the black scales. I haven't measured them, though to be sure. As much as I like them, I think the new design is something of a cost cutting measure. Aesthetically, I like the newer ones better than the black scales.

I tried a 301 recently, 2 of 3 blades had play and the springs were way to weak for my taste, I like my buck lockblades but for slipjoints I can't bring my self to carry anything but Victorinox anymore :D

I love my Victorinox knives more than anything but I was shocked at a couple of my recent purchases. I ordered a Huntsman and when It came in the Awl has lots of side to side wiggle and I also ordered a Alox scale Electrician Apprentice for my Father in Law and the main blade has side to side wiggle. I noticed it when he opened his present and said to him to send it in and he said naw its fine, a little blade play didnt hurt anything. He said , its gonna have alot more than that after I use it, Cause he is an Electrician. He is 65 yrs old and told me that all slip joints usually had some blade play. Thats just normal. He has had the same Buck knife for 25 yrs and it always had a little play but it never let him down he said. He said as long as it cuts he is good with it.

I think your father-in-law might be on to something. I wish I was a little less nitpicky, and could just enjoy my toys. All of my Victorinox knives (and I have a bunch) have been perfect except for my Swiss Champ whose main blade tip, hits the base of the file, abrading it. I'm afraid it will eventually nick the edge. I sent it in once, and they replaced the blade with one that closes exactly as the original did, hitting at the tip (can't figure that one out). As a matter of fact, I was considering doing a little shopping for a second Swiss Champ after I get of this forum. That way, I can just beat the other without worrying about it.
