Some tech. info. for us anal types:
Muscle Products Corp. hired Falex Corp., a well-known lubricant testing firm to perform a wear test most every lubricant on the market. Here are the seven best on the list:
#1 was FP-10, manufactured by MPC and sold also by Ventco(Shooter's Choice).
#2 was Minuteman High Tech Oil(never heard of it)
#3 was Tetra Gun grease
#4 was Pro-lix Dry Film Lube
#5 was Eezox
#6 was Tri-Flow
#7 was Tetra Gun Oil
(Break Free CLP is #12 on the list)
Manufacturer's data:
Corrosion X-
ASTM-4172(wear test coefficiant of friction)
.58 mm
ASTMB-117(salt spray test) 80 hrs.
Break Free CLP-
ASTM-4172 .80 mm
ASTMB-117 100 hrs.
(All this aside, in my tests Corrosion X protected a little better than Break Free CLP.)
Comparing MPC FP-10 to Break Free CLP-
FP-10 ASTMD-2783(weld load lubrication test) no sieze at max possible load of 720 kg.
CLP ASTMD-2783 sieze at 315 kg.
According to this test, FP-10 is 2.2 times better than CLP in it's lubricating ability.
Nonetheless, some lubricants tend to work better than others on some finishes/surfaces, and the ease of application of a product makes a big difference too. W.R. Gamble, VP of Corrosion Tehnologies Corp., maker of Corrosion X wisely points out that many lab tests do not predict real world performance. I have personally tested and used many of the high-tech wonder lubes available, and I cannot tell much difference between them. They all work. Militec-1 is probably the best lubricant/bore treatment I've used, followed by FP-10. As far as corrosion protection goes, Corrosion X and Break Free CLP win hands down. Ease of use/application goes to G96 Gun Treatment. Break Free CLP is the cheapest and most readily available.
