Buck has recently implimented new "lean" manufacturing processes which require much less floor space. Our current building is now too large. We will be selling our current facility and moving to a smaller one. The whereabouts of that new, smaller building is yet to be finalized. It may be in California, it might not.
Hope this helps,
Our local paper ran an article last weekend about Buck Knives possibly moving to Post Falls, ID, located between Spokane, WA and Couer D' Alene, ID. The other location being considered was Bend, OR acording to the article. Buck Knives, you will love it in Post Falls.
Joe's term of "lean manufacturing process" says downsizing to me.
I work for a large company that has been doing this "lean" thing
for five years now. In the process they have eliminated 60% > 70%
of thier elderly workforce which is becoming an issue as the baby
boomers age in our workforces.
With all the issues of California's energy crisis of late the need to find a
more stable and friendly place to conduct business must be considered.
No matter where Buck winds up C.J. will be something of a villian for a bit
because these changes have happend on his watch as head of the company.
We all need to remind ourselves that to a large extent Buck has defended
our knife rights almost alone. It takes money to do that and I'm sure that
with the open attack on our civil liberties due to the terrorist attacks , and
the consant threat of more, Buck must re-position themselves for a much
smaller market.
How many of us are AKTI members?? We need to speak with the same
loud voice as the NRA does or soon we will have no rights to carry even
a pocketknife.
So if Buck does move the factory from California it will be almost a preditable
series of events that caused it.
