Hi All.

Is Busse #5 a good knife? Will mainly use it for utility and defense. Is there anything better for the same money and similar in size.

Thanks.

The Busse #5 holds its edge very well on soft materials. The handle is resonably confortable. The bottom swell is a bit too pronouced.

It is a really thick knife (0.25" blade thickness). This is excessive for most utility applications and defence. It could use more of a guard or larger handle if stabbing is required of it.

I like it.

Yep, I like mine, but it is a little thick. On a 5" blade, I would rather have 3/16" stock. It is a good performer in the edge holding dept. and I understand it works well in other areas as well. I haven't torture tested mine so I'm not qualified to comment in that area. The knife cuts rope real well and holds it's edge for a looong time and the handle does not raise blisters or hot spots on my hand, so overall I'm happy with it.
