Is ESEE's kydex not good enough?

^^ LOL

I can see where people would want a slimmer profile sheath, or a kydex sheath instead of plastic. But when I order a kydex sheath for my non-ESEE blades, I get ones set up like the ESEE ones with the grommets all around. I prefer the versatility of that type of sheath, and am willing to pay the price in having the larger profile.

I've said it before, the the sheaths are what really make the ESEE knives. Most knife makers, even ones that make better knives, either have sheaths that suck at everything, including just holding the knife, or they don't offer one at all. With ESEE, you have a very functional and very versatile system. You can mount them in just about any manner you can think of.

IMO, it's best that they stick to that, and if someone wants a thinner profile, or leather or kydex (to replace the plastic sheaths), then that's how custom makers make their money.

My plastic izzy sheath works good but i wanted lower profile for pocket carry.
Perhaps the kydex "retainer knobs" wear down slower than the plastic ones
but that should take whole lot of drawing and resheathing the knife for the plastic to fail.

Kydex is actualy acrylic polyvinyl chloride, kydex is just the name of the company who bought the product from the people who invented/created it ;), bored at work last night, sorry.

Ive carried the Izula and RC3 a LOT...with no issues with retention, whatsoever.

When you say "EDC", do you mean "dip in a pot of boiling water"? I cannot see how simple carrying could loosen up any of the sheaths to the point of not retaining the knife at all anymore.

As for the rattle, yes plastic sheaths can rattle a small amount. What, are you trying to sneak up on a bear because they are easier to kill with an RC3 when they dont know you are coming?

As in, rides in my front pocket on a daily basis. No, I just don't like sounding like a mariachi band when walking through the grocery store...
On the flip side I guess I won't have to spend money on bear bells :D

I'm just curious as to why many people are getting custom kydex sheaths when many come with them from ESEE.
I will say that I about had a major accident today and it was related to the ESEEE kydex sheath. I was trying to pull my RC-3 out of the kydex sheath today, which was attached to my Maxpedition bag and I started to pull it out the opposite way it was meant to be. If I didn't happen to look down I would not have realized that the blade was about to cut my finger fairly bad I was using that finger as leverage to pull the knife out.

I really like all of the ESEE sheaths I have except for I'm not crazy about the Izula sheath for neck carry. The customs I had made were for color and nothing to do with quality. I had tan sheaths made for my own personal reasons.

I couldn't agree more. While I wouldn't pick a knife solely based on it's sheath, the great thing about these knives is the knives are great and the sheaths are great.

I've purchased other brand knives which didn't include a sheath and ones that included a not so good sheath. I always had to go through the aggravation of having one made. I do prefer kydex, and in my experience I have found most of the popular sheath makers I have dealt with to be some of the worst business people in any business I've ever dealt with in my many years of being a mad spender.

Thanks to ESEE for offering such great knives and including great quality sheaths which would otherwise cost a significant amount of money, time and aggravation to have made.

I must ask after reading this and looking on line at the knives. While the 3 and 6 are plastice the 4 is kydex. Am I correct on this? The site says kydex and it looks alot different the the pictures of the 3 and 6 sheaths.
