Is Gunny on the Money?

Depending on his contract it is quite possible he never saw, much less had editorial review, of the ad copy. As long as the copy isn't offensive they probably can put whatever words they want in his mouth.

Doesn't make the words in thus case any less silly.

Last I saw he carried a microtech

Same here he popped it open to point at something. Looked like a longer blade than what I expected from an OTF too, if memory serves me.

Yet another case of "Pay me and I will say anything you want, my lord, no matter how big a lie. I will tell them with a straight face that the sky is green and 2+2=5. I will look them in the eye and tell them I am not looking them in the eye!"

A disease that is running rampant in our society. :barf:

I dunno. Sounds kinda wierd to me. A good tool is useless without skill and knowledge to use it. On the other hand, all the skill and knowhow wouldn't do much good if the tool absolutely sucked.

Yeah I agree, it must be "Gunny Wisdom" since it doesn't make a damn bit of sense. Former Marine here and they used to spout off plenty of BS that seemed to make perfect sense to them anyway! :D

So what else is new in marketing and politics right? :barf:

But, in the Madison Avenue advertising world, that statement makes absolute perfect sense. Seperate it the item/brand pimped and fill in whatever you like, it works for anyone more convinced that 'A's Status as a company, name, etc. is better then 'B's. Odds are he never really said it, an ad exec wrote it and He as a paid endorser collected the check. Reminds of the mindset of a few that swear by say Snap-On tools...doesn't matter if they're using a screwdriver as a chisel...it's a Snap-On, so it's correct.

Having the skill and know-how to recognize when your tool absolutely sucks is important, because then you can improve it, or your technique, or choose a more effective tool (I mean the steel kind). A person with no skill and knowledge might blunder along with a sucky tool, not getting the job done or doing more damage than if he left it alone. Your most important tool is...

right between your ears.

..I sure like him on "Mail Call" but it also looks like he has a very nice endorsement deal with SOG.

Well if you want to over analyze it, he did say a true expert.

A true expert, already knowing how to use a tool, would never use the wrong tool for the job.
