Is INFI that good or is it just over engineered !!

CG BWM = 10+" blade only 3/16" thick with an unconditional warranty?

I don't know anyone anywhere who makes a thinner blade that long that's warranted against anything that might be considered abuse, or even to withstand "applications for which the knife was not intended". Much less an unconditional guarantee. Not to mention the 18.5" long, 3/16" thick AK.

They're thin for Busse, but not in general. I was a tad disappointed when my Muk arrived. I was hoping it would be thinner. I'm still happy with it, but I'd like some thinner INFI. Maybe one day we'll get a slicer that folds.

they're all LE's

Great. Another Busse Forum thread full of whining and complaining. There were no combat grade versions of the anorexic boss street nor the hog muk. Those three knives I mentioned are as thin or thinner than comparably sized knives offered by ESEE, Tops or Becker. Brendan already had a thread saying he was done buying Busses. Had he just purchased any of the last three LE offerings he would have his thINFI.

I think Busse makes plenty 'thin/anorexic' blades; in fact, I want to see more fat blades. Moreover, I have yet to even come close to breaking a tip on any of my anorexic Busses’. I'm kinda getting tired of the anorexic models! :foot: I, personally, want to see more fat Busses. That’s just my 2 cents, YMMV… :)

I have a BWM, BAD, CULTI and SS4 left (which is on it's way out) - spot a trend here ?? I will buy more INFI when the models stop eating all the pies ! I love Busse knives and think they are one of the finest companies on the planet; my point was more around wanting to see them push the boat out a little - push INFI to the limit; hell knows it can take it, why have all that extra steel ?

esse jungalas has unconditional guarantee and is about the same size as a bwm. If you use is if you use a cutting torch to cut it in half, its still covered.
Jungalas is 3/16" thick yet as far as I can tell, has a higher grind line, so it is may be thinner than the BWM.

wrong, dude. Not whining or complaining at all. Just making a simple statement of fact.

So then what's your point? The OP wants thINFI and the last three knives offered were thINFI. Now that's a fact.

I don't mean to whine. I just think it would be cool to have a smaller, thinner INFI blade. The Muk is a great thickness for the outdoors, but seeing so many people excited to use it in the kitchen had my hopes up for something thin. I'm cool with Busse making thick knives. I can get the thin knives I crave from custom makers, but I can't get them in INFI. I'd love to have some useful INFI in the kitchen, or on my side everyday in my urban environment. I'll occasionally carry my MUK for work, but it's gonna raise some eyebrows.

has anyone out there thought of taking a smaller INFI blade, removing the handles - cutting down the tang -- and making a folder out of the blade? If Busse won't make a folder - and has the best steel on the planet... It seems like the next step in this is a hack. I wonder if i could commision this "under the table" with a great folder maker.....

thoughts?

As Jaxx said, it has been done.

I myself have held an INFI folder, it was made from a SAR 3.

I carry the BAD daily. The CABS is thin enough for my uses. The muck seems pretty nice (have not sliced anything yet, as I have to wait for my B-day to actually use it).

I am on the bandwagon for some much thinner offerings for kitchen use! Not that I would have the money to lay down on new kitchen infi, unless I sold some of my "outdoors" blades! Some more thin santoku's etc!

oh man...i hope i don't get banned for this...butttttttt...

There are a double handful of these that I have seen.

Some great examples! By very high end makers.

Some home made hack jobs as well!

I have two pieces of Infi from a broken BWM comp finish I want to put to that use some day.

I think Ronybear has at least two or three folders from Reese Weiland.

Here is one of them. These are Ronybear's photo's of one of his folders, just stolen from his original post.

Here it is with the Custom Jack Hammer that came with the Busse/Baer 1911 Set to give a size comparison!!!

I could not find them, but I am sure he also has two more auto's one bigger, and one smaller also out of infi with mammoth tooth, or mammoth bark ivory handles?

I think this is a very rude post. You are not the only person on earth that likes Busse but why should Jerry make just you knives made just so you like them? Did you ever consider there are many people here that love fat Busse?
You are coming onto the Busse forum, Jerry's Forums and telling him you don't like anything he makes and what he needs to do. When was the last time you said you bought and loved something he made?
This is a free market, if you don't like it, you don't need to buy it.
As for the folder, Jerry said he is working on one and I'll wait for it. If it's done by anyone else then Jerry, it's not a real true Busse and I'll wait for it. I only want the best!

...so an excellent warranty--but it's not INFI. Makes the warranty impressive, nonetheless.

What I was getting at was the original question, which basically was, does Busse only guarantee its knives because they're so thick they're unbreakable?

Here we have an example where another manufacturer guarantees a blade that's as thin as a Busse with an unconditional warranty, which is commendable. But until that blade is proven to perform better than INFI in all respects, I would still prefer my blades be made out of INFI with the Busse heat treat.

Good Lord, Dan that was just a question/invitation for a discussion... Not sure why you are getting all worked up about; the more knives Busse makes, the more knives you get to sell to folks.

From few videos I saw, and some of the posts I’ve read on the main board, it appears there are few steels on the market that will hold the edge a bit better than INFI.
Venturing in to 4-5 inch hunting/slicing knife market with thinner blades may be an uphill battle for INFI.

Thinking about knives like the anorexic badger, the thin Nick, the Boneys, the different thicknesses offered for the game wardens, the different thicknesses offered for the ASH1, etc. - it seems to me like Busse regularly offers knives in different thickness options, for different uses, despite the reputation as only a maker of fat blades.

they're all LE's

OK, then how's about the BAD, Culti, Nuclear Muskrat, HACK Bear Cub, .140 GW's... and really, I believe that most any Busse with CBT should count as from the bottom of the CBT ridges to the edge bevel seems to be around the same thickness as at least a .140 GW. :)
..............................................................

For those who are offering us some whine here...Let's drop the negativity, shall we? It's a great weekend, plenty to be happy about...get some burgers & beer...and go chop something! (don't forget to take pix! :))

i think the offering of thin infi jerry has offered lately are perfect.i would not want something i have to baby while using.thinner is not always better no matter what type of steel you use..
