Is it acceptable to baton with a Bk-11?

Just ran out to my truck, and here is a pair that we used on the roof today. They are big enough to split the lobster open big enough to get all the meat out.

Thanks, Game, that was nice of you to go to the effort of doing that.

Those look like fairly standard strong shears. Not knowing a whole lot about roofing, for some reason I was thinking of some specialty shears made just for roofers — something that I'd never seen before. Those look like I could find them at Home Depot or ACE.

I know that shingles are really, really abrasive; how long do a pair of those last on a job?

Those ones I've had for probably 2 months, and they held up quite fine today as well. However, I am not sure how they would handle shingles. We only get shingles every once in a while.

These are what work best of all of the scissors/shears I have tried, though. My dad won't use anything but these. (Roofer for 32 years)

You could always go baton a slab of bacon with your BK-11 (since this is pork month), and pretend it's lobster. Takes one heck of an imagination, though.:D

See, there's always a solution.

Once again - I think you've hit the optimum solution. Batonning bacon - brilliant!

I've done one — count 'em one — roofing job in my life, and that was enough. It was the middle of the summer, and it was a real bear. We were putting up composite (I don't know the real name for them) shingles, the kind with sand/gravel embedded in them, and cut them with an old KA-BAR. Darn near destroyed the edge, although it cut the tar paper just fine. Anyway, what brand are they?

By the way, you have my admiration doing that in the summer. And your dad? 32 Years? Must be tough.

It's the imagining that it's lobster that's the hard part.:D Although, if you're like me, bacon can be a good substitute.

One of my sons never did like bacon: made me suspect he wasn't really mine.

The brand, I am not sure of. I just looked all over the blade for writing, and the only thing I could find were the words "Made in the USA". When we get them they just come in a brown box with nothing written on it.

Yea, my dad is a tough one. They recently raised the retiring age by 12 years as well. He is still retiring next summer though. Just has to take a small cut.

And, I thank you.

Thanks, Game. I'll keep my eyes out for shears like that.

If your dad is anything like me, retiring is bittersweet. After the first month or so, you start looking for things to do.

No problem :) Glad to be of some help.

My dad is very active in the mornings, and relaxes after work. He lifts weights in the morning before work(around 4:45 - 5:45). On the weekends he wakes up at the same time and lifts weights from 4:30 - 10 on and off. In the winter when we aren't working, he is always out exploring and doing things. If it goes like I think it will, he likely won't stop 'working' even though he is retired.

Anyway, I think we de-railed the thread a little bit.

Yeah, it did get a little off track. What was it about again? Lobsters? No, that's not right . . . batoning with a BK-11, that was it.

Sounds like your dad won't have any trouble at all.

Hope I did not step on anyone's toes. Figured the members had given enough warnings for deal spotting to not warrant an 'official' one and just removed the links. Thanks guys.

Thanks, Gus, for handling it the way you did. I think you handled it in just the right way, since the poster was clearly a newbie and didn't understand the rules as well as he probably does now. There was no need, in this instance, for a draconian response, and you didn't use one; it was well done.

I admonished him, and Bladite would have fixed it after he finished his lobster roll, I'm sure . . . you just beat him to it.:D

No toes were stepped on at all.

Just a word of caution, EnduringEagle: that is considered deal spotting and will draw an infraction from the Super Mods. Please be more careful in the future, as we'd hate to have you draw an infraction, especially when you're trying to be helpful.

Please read the forum rules so this doesn't happen to you again.

I might also suggest that you at remove the price and the link, before a mod decides to do it for you.;)
My apologies as my zeal to help a fellow member over ruled my judgement.

No problem, EnduringEagle. I think everyone could tell that you were merely trying to be helpful. You just need to remember in the future that deal spotting is a big no-no.

As it turned out, one of the Super Mod's did see it but, since you had been warned, treated it very well by simply deleting the link: it could have been worse.;)

Don't let that stop you from participating in the Becker forum in the future — we're a pretty decent group, after all. Just be careful of deal spotting.
