Is it acceptable to have blades scratched?

What steel are they? Do you know what HT process was used? Is the picture as received back or have you done some sanding since?

After sleeping on it I think your problem begins at the draw filing stage, the pits could be chunks of metal dragged out by a dirty file. When draw filing you should get in the habit of cleaning your file after each stroke and even powder it with a little baby powder.

It would be interesting to know what kind of steel it is. We got some D2 one time that had small pits in the steel that would only show up in the final polish. We could polish down through them and they would disappear as others showed up. Some would get bigger and bigger as you got into them. We had to quit using that batch of steel.
