I had to put many animals to sleep myself when I was younger because my father was too chickens**t to do it himself, and we were too poor to go to the vet--dogs, cats, poultry, you name it. It left me in tears several times. Never an easy task, but sometimes it's necessary because an animal is suffering.--Josh

Your father sounds a lot like mine. I too was the "hangman" when any pets was to be put to sleep. It was really my grandma who introduced me to the task. I used to get a small amount of money for the deed from her, mostly for taking care of cats.
I`m raised on a farm, and these things were quite natural.
