Is it just me, or is this knife worthless?

Punching a human being with a piece of hard steel wrapped around and extending from your finger would be a whole lot different than pushing a knife into a piece of raw meat. Of course it doesn't take a lot of force to penetrate raw meat with a knife. Unfortunately, human bodies are not just boneless raw meat, all over anyway... and I still say that if you punch something hard with something like that on your finger (like you would in an adrenaline charged street fight) your finger would be in a world of hurt.

If it hit something hard like a bone, the knife part would more than likely pivot up or down and put a whole lot of force on that finger bone. It might not break, but it would definitely hurt your finger. This knife is not like a push dagger or brass knuckles something where there is litte chance of the blade pivoting like that.

By the way, I was not trying to insult anyone.

I would like to also clarify that I am not slamming the maker. I am sure it is well made, and required skill to make that I don't have. It would also take skill I don't have to use it effectively. I guess I just think that there are much more practical alternatives out there, like the OSS thumb dagger someone mentioned even. I certainly would not want to get hit with it, if the weilder knew what they were doing or not.

Actually I disagree. The two concave cutouts will put some pressure on the neighboring fingers, but they also act as stabiizers to help prevent the knife from shifting. Also, in a clenched position, the gap would be in front of the finger, as the flesh of the palm would push the ring forward, so it's not in direct contact with the finger bone.

Im not trying to flame the knife maker, but more the design. Im pretty sure that there aren't many martial art styles that require the use of a "ring knife". Its sheer impracticality. The only thing I can think of that is SIMILIAR to this is the plastic stinger made for hitting with high impact and for hitting vital points.

To Couger: I've broken fingers by punching with nothing on them. Think of what would happen if that blade landed at a slightly different angle and 'bent' away from your finger. The result would most definatly be either a snapped finger or very discouraged fighter.

Again, Im not slamming the maker either. Im sure he has great skill to make something like this. But for the price and function its not worth it. However, if you're into unusual knives, then it may be.

It seems like to be effective with it, you would need an awful lot of special training.

That much is true; it does require quite a bit of practice to master. That training would be a waste of time for someone who will never find himself in a situation where he can't carry a more effective weapon, too. But not everyone fits into that category.

A ring knife is a deep cover weapon. It is for situations where you can't use a Glock; you can't even use a pushdagger. It is a great deal more effective than your fingernails, if you know how to use it.

You don't punch hard with a ring knife. A ring knife is not a pushdagger. Although it is possible to kill with a ring knife, it's more often used to release yourself from a hold and get the hell out of the room no matter how many of them are between you and the door. For that purpose, experience has shown it works. Not as well as a Glock or a bowie, but much better than fingernails. By the way, even if you did manage to break your finger, there are worse things that could happen to you....

You don't have any trouble finding a trigger guard after you've grasped the handle of a pistol because you know where it is. If you need to draw a ring knife in a hurry you'll need to know where that is, too. How long does it take you to stick your finger in your ear? Might be a long time, relatively speaking, if you haven't practiced that move, but keep sticking your finger in your ear for a few minutes and you will notice you get better at it. Practice sticking your finger in your ear for a few minutes every day and after a while you'll find you always know where your ear is. You can break just about any technique down into a series of moves as simple as sticking your finger in your ear, and practice them at odd moments while you're waiting for a pic to load....

That inside-the-palm pics just shows the versatility if the knife.
a self-stigmata kit
a deterrent for masturbation
a great gag at parties - "Hey pal, putter there!"
a self-circumcision kit
it's reaaly cool when you say something stupid to a female, then smack your temples saying "I'M SO STUPID!
Do you suck at volleyball? Give em the spike!

the possibilities are endless!

BTW don't be a stick in the mud! This is just for fun!

I went to one of those the other day. I didn't think I needed to go, but my mom wanted me to. Apparently she thinks accidentally swallowing a 1.5 inch nail is a big deal.
