Is it just me or...

Of all the Kershaws I've bought, the three sharpest out of the box were the Groove, the Mini Mojo, and the ENER-G. All the Kershaws have been shaving sharp, but the three mentioned were extremely sharp, especially the ENER-G, that one was wicked! Sandy had left a paperback laying on the coffee table when I brought them home, and the ENER-G push cut thru that book like it was jello. Good thing they came with Band-Aids (not that I needed them or anything...:D)

Thanks for all the input, I guess it is inaccurate to classify the edge as dull but I would have to say it is NOT shaving sharp, i could run my fingers along the edge and serrations with confidence that I would not get cut. I even put it to the test when i had to cut a lemon from my tree, it took a little to much effort.

Dexter, in your post 1-3 apply to mine so perhaps the knife didn't get sharpened properly from the factory. I purchased this from a dealer (knifeworks) and i think i will be calling Kershaw to discuss my options. thanks again everyone.

sharp is two darn subjective.... if you're knowledgeable enough to know the fine differences, then I would recommend learning the skills to make it sharper yourself. The new knife aint going to be shaving sharp forever ;)

you might want to consider what i use, cardboard wheels. on a new knife you can touch up a blade and make it scarry sharp in seconds. i even use it to touch up serrations that arent too bad. stevebot sells them to members at a discount and they are worth the money.

ok so yeah, i was bored last night, so i found a long hair in the bathroom and i took my Lahar to it. now i havnt used my Lahar much (wanna keep that edge :D:D) but i have shaved some hair off of my hands numerous times. i decided to see if it will cut the free hanging hair. in a quick cutting motion it cut it easily. lightyears ahead of what my other knives can do. thats basically out of the box sharp. impresive if i do say so myself!

i need to get some of those!

I have been looking for a new knife for a while. I finally bought a Kershaw Vapor at Walmart. Seemed like a nice price for what it is.

I brought it home and it didn't seem vary sharp. It wouldn't shave.
This is from the description of the Vapor from Kershaw's website:

the blade is flat ground to Kershaw's famous, "shaving sharp" edge.

I did immediately run it through the GATCO and it is shaving. I used the 19° setting and it will shave now. It just needs some fine tuning.

I was surprised by how hard it is to open one handed.

If you send it into Kershaw for sharpening can you post a picture of it afterwards or let us know how it turned out?

I got a Junkyard Dog plain edge and it was sharpened better than the serrated one.
I just posted some pictures in the general thread of the Junkyard Dog.

Thanks

All mine have came shaving sharp except my E.T. It was freakin' wicked sharp.

2nd that on the E.T. I got a rainbow blade E.T. as a gift from a friend who knew I was into knives, and especially Kershaws. I had seen them but was unfamiliar with the toggle action. The very first time I opened it up and played with it (right in front of my friend and his wife) I flicked that toggle to close it and down came the rainbow razor right on the top of my index finger!! There was a definite jolt of pain when the blade got down to my bone. As my buddy's wife looked on in horror, I thought to myself "some knife collector you are!":o Just about every kershaw I've ever owned came similarly sharp.

Cheers,
Jon
