Is it just me?

It's not just you Carl. If I saw him dawning latex gloves I would have thought the worst:eek::eek:

I think 300Bucks best summarizes my outlook.

While the gentleman's taste in knives is not mine I am glad his hobby gives him some pleasure. Imagine the kick he experienced when he discovered his guest was into knives.

Guys like him might be keeping Case in business but they're probably also the reason the Case/Bose ebony backpocket only comes in tru-sharp. I sure wish a cv version was available for us users.

So if you like stainless you're not a "user"?

That's not what I meant to infer. I use the tru-sharp but do wish many Case knives were available in other choices like better stainless steels as well as cv.

If you stop and think about it for a moment, we were all that guy at one point in time on one level or another.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to collecting. I do shudder a tad when I see someone with a $1,000 worth
of Pakastani knives ( or their equivilent ) and am not really sure of how to respond. I've been there Mr. Jacknife and it ain't a comfortable
situation. Socially speaking.

You got the working man, using his knives. He might have one or two from his dad, but any knife he buys is for work. As long as it cuts and sharpens easily, he could care less.

You got the knife collector like this guy. He thinks his knives are worth a million bucks, and treats them like it. If he had to sell them, he would be in for a big surprise. He should get some use out of them, but as others have said, he isn't hurting anyone, so why should he do anything different.

You have us, the knife nuts. Wow, a $5 knife. It's a piece of junk. I'm going to use it to see how it cuts. Wow, I just got my $500 custom sodbuster. It's great. Let's see how it cuts.

Case sells a lot of sharp stuff to the collectors like this guy out there. People like him pay the bills at Case, and allow us to drool over, and maybe be lucky enough to get, the Tony Bose collaborations.

To each his own. Collecting things is strange, in general. I have a buddy that collects pennies. He pumps gas so he gets 4 cents in change (and gets tiffed if they try to give him a nickel :D). A portion of his life revolves around pennies. I think people, in general, are wired to have little eccentricities. My dad could probably open a fishing tackle shop in his basement for a few years without restocking his inventory. I watch his collecting obsession move from thing to thing. Fishing lures, DVDs, stamps, arrow heads, shot glasses, etc. He's on books right now. He enjoys his different collections, but I ask myself how much is too much?

I've been trying not to collect anything and only have things I use. Having small children and a stay at home wife helps to limit "Dad's knife/gun/beer" budget to almost zero, so that helps. Pre-kids/two full time incomes...I collected many things! For now, I get my kicks looking at everyone's great knife pictures. Ask me again in 15 years if I collect anything. ;)

A CV version is now available in chestnut bone.

Oops... just realized you were wanting one in ebony.
