I bought my first CRK, a Zaan, a couple years ago and edc it for about 3 months for the most part. I bought a cgg( computer generated graphic) and a few varitions of the large seb.

I very seldom carry the CRKs and a couple of customs I have because I like the Spydies, Kershaw, and especially ZTs I've bought in the last 2 years or so more than the CRKs and customs.

Are there any other CRK owners or guys that used to have CRKs that feel the same about their CRKs or am I the odd man out.

I don't carry my Sebenza much. Mostly because I hate the pointed thumbstuds and its placement from the pivot. Also not too crazy about that sandblasted finish that scuffs like cheap plastic. Though I'm hoping an Umnumzaan would cure my itch.

I got a few high dollar blades ($400+) that don't see much use either. Nothing wrong with the high dollar blades, but I do prefer something that I am more familiar with.

I carry the zaan normally. I just wish it were smoother like my OD-1. I put CRK grease on the OD-1 and it is the smoothest folder I've ever used.

ssblood maybe your pivot is too tight. My Umnumzaan was ultra smooth.

I can spin the pivot with my fingers. Do you think I should loosen it some more?

Is it new? My Sebenza was a little stiff to open when I got it. However, now it smoothed out considerably, and I can even flick it open(though I normally don't).

It's been opened a couple thousand times I guess. I sent it to CRK to reconvex it. It came back so tight it was hard to open. I took it apart to find it was filled with loctite. Whoever put it together got carried away. Had to get the pivot pin out that was glued in with loctite and scrape all the excess loctite out. I think I'll take it apart again and see if I can get some more out. Next time I send something to CRK I'll include a note not to loctite it.

I had a small Sebenza but just never got the hype. Sold it here a couple of weeks later and bought some Spydies instead! :D

That was a dirty trick huh? Get a hernia trying to open the blade and find out someone glued it!!

I've had 4 large Sebenzas and 2 were buttery smooth, one was so stiff that I opened & closed it constantly and ended up with lots of little swirly rub marks from my fingers and thumb on the new ti slabs. (Made a new knife look like a user). :(

The other was kinda stiff but breaking it down amd lubing it up made it smooth.

Sebenza detents "are like a box of chocolates...." :)

I never had a sebenza that would cut like a spyderco or ZT. I had a small sebenza in BG42 steel, and it cut good.

idk. i use my seb daily. sold every other benchmade i carried, and only kept two, one a bedlam cuz it fulfills my inner mall ninja, and the other a tsek cuz it was a gift. nothing else other than a burger graces my pocket, and i got the burger cuz it was not only awesome but more sheeple friendly than the tanto large sebenza...

yeah, don't ask. i got a couple looks pulling it out and one called it a "double edged switch blade" soooo i got the burger to cover light duty tasks, and retired the seb to a hard life of being beaten like a red headed step child.

i didn't like the pointy thumbstuds either, but man... they sure are nice when you're wearing gloves. plus in the multitudes of thousands of times i've opened it, they've worn down and aren't sharp anymore. mine was never stiff, and i've never greased it. cleaned out the gunk a couple times, ended up wiping off the grease that was there; still flicks open when i desire it to. love the thing. just wish i could get the leading edge of the tanto shaving sharp, but thats a operator error, nothing on crk.

its like anything else out there of quality; whether it be a bmw, fine wine or liquor, or cigar etc... some people just never get the subtleties that make it what it is. and thats cool, more for me! :D

I think you typically boil it in water, spray with WD-40, wash off with soap and water, and wipe it dry. Scraping can miss a spot. However, loctite is to be expected. It doesn't have a pivot bushing like the Sebenza(a true downside IMO, but maybe it compromises pivot strength).

Yup. Problem was the loctite was everywhere. Between the pivot and blade, all over the titanium under the pivot screw, etc. Might try boiling it when I get home.

I'm interested in this. I've thought about sending mine in too, for a reconvexing. Was this the same knife you used the Edge Pro on?

Yep. They didn't reconvex it. I was rather disappointed with the whole experience honestly. I wanted it put back original and was willing to pay for it. I told this to Heather when I called and included it in the note. Unfortunately they just sharpened what was there. Still have uneven bevels and no convex. Not to mention the greasy fingerprints and such that were all over it and the loctite problem.

I could have spent my 40 dollars I paid in shipping to buy something else. Instead I paid 40 bucks for someone to make me have to tear it down and get all the loctite out. :)

I hope this doesn't sound bad or anything. I really didn't want to make a big deal about it but it has eaten at me. I expected a lot better than this. I figure someone was just having a bad day at work or something. Literally half a days pay for me to send in and ship it back. That just kinda stings for the service I received.

David

That isn't good at all. I won't be sending anything back in that case. The cost of the knife first of all, in addition to the endless list of testimonials on near perfection every time, throw the $40 wasted on top...that would eat at me too. I would not be pleased with that kind of service either. I hope your knife is super sharp at least.

The angle is in the low 30s. My doings with the EP. Dull and rolls really quick. These knives came at 40 for a reason. I have to touch it up at night if I use it much during the day.

I bought my first Sebbie with Bocote inlays with full intention to carry and use it. I did. For one week. Not because the knife was bad but rather I just never could bring myself to use it. It went to the safe. A month later I bought a Umnumzaan user. I do use that and it's my most EDC'd blade. I will never part with either but the Sebbie remains queen of the safe. Instead I use the Zaan, BM 710 and other assorted Spydercos for the majority of carry.
