Recommendation? Is It Legal To Carry?

This thread reminds me of an experience I had. I found my Kelly Works cruiser at an antique shop in Beacon, NY. You should have seen the looks and heard the comments I got as I walked down the street back to my car. Turns out there is no way you can carry an axe in town that is NOT intimidating. I had a good chuckle...

Ok So I Own A Ozark Trail hatchet and its very small and the edged portions less then 4 inches and i reside in the state of Connecticut and i was wondering if its legal to carry it around openly while its in its sheath ive contacted the local PD but they say that theres not enough information to give me an exact answer i was wondering if anyone has had any experience with carrying a hatchet in ct.

thx~~~

I can't say if it's legal, but there is no good to come from it.

After looking at that clip for no more than 5 min., I sure am glad I have not watched TV in 20 years.

Some of the best television ever made is within the last 20 years, with regard to plot development, acting quality and production. That show isn't one of them. Which isn't to say that it can't be entertaining to the right person in the mood for it. :)

I've lost count of the comments from others after I have purchased an axe. Usually it's a joke or comment about what I'm going to use it for. My standard response now isn't to answer directly, I only say that there are better tools for that job. They usually stop talking to me, works like a charm.

JB- I am still glad I have not had TV in almost 20 years. The last thing on that appealed to me was when PBS ran "Alone In The Wilderness" and "Frontier House" (how could I not like this one?)

I have a neighbor that only gets a tv when he's recovering from an injury and sells it when he's recovered. As its 5 or so years between injuries he gets a fresh prospective on programming. He said each time he gets rid of one he is amazed by how much time he would waste watching it vs working outside. He also said the shows just get worse and worse. From what I've seen, PBS programming is the only non-cable station that doesn't mostly have people arguing on talk shows or profanity laced comedy shows. O Old Axeman , do you know where I could find a copy of "Alone in the Wilderness"?

There are an awful lot of shows of people doing essentially "hold my beer" stupid stunts. Swamp logging, moonshining and car racing shows tend to follow this format.

Basically it's a show about an idiot doing something stupid. Good TV ratings!

A17-Sorry, I don't know where you can get a copy of "Alone In The Wilderness". My DVD copy and a copy of the book "One Mans Wilderness" about Dick Proenneke, was a gift from PBS Montana and PBS Wyoming about 15 years ago when PBS had me comment on the tools when they aired it during pledge. I have been told that Montana PBS in Missoula still airs it during pledge, you might contact them at the Missoula station located on the University of Montana campus. Also, I bet somebody on here that is more plugged in than I, might have a idea for you.

20 years ago I took a crew to Alaska and restored a historic miners cabin on Forest Service land. This cabin was not far from Dick's cabin. But because of work time restraints I did not get to his cabin, and I regret it to this day.

It use to be on youtube but has since disappeared; no doubt due to copyright violation. When I need to re-watch it I do a google search for a stream which is becoming harder to find a working version.

If you have some spending money head to www.dickproenneke.com and grab yourself a DVD copy of Alone in the Wilderness for $23.95. You will cherrish that DVD it is worth every penny. If you have a bit more cash grab AITW 1 & AITW 2 combo pack for $45.90; that would be a nice wee set for your collection.

There are 2 further movies: 'Alaska Silence & Solitude' and 'The Frozen North'. I haven't seen either regrettably but no doubt they are great. Ideally one should aim to get all 4 (or at least see them one way or another).

Mostly pay tv channels like hbo and Netflix for good shows.Has been awhile since I liked anything but deadwood and Rome where great.

I have both the books thanks to my grandma who was the first one to tell me about them but I'll have to pick up the dvd's too. Just as soon as I free up some spending money after getting hafts for all the heads that are kicking around.

OP Just stick the Hatchet in a sock "Out of sight out of mind" and strap it to your pack and your good to go unless you plan on looking intimidating but more importantly how often do you think Rick sharpens his Hatchet and at what angle, It's been keeping me up nights thinking about it:confused:
