Is it ok to purchase the Spydercos being sold in Amazon?

There are some amazon prices that are much lower than the prices found in Knifecenter.

So my question is, is it safe?

Or is there a risk and I should just stick to knifecenter?

I would stick to knifecenter, knifeworks, stores like that. Amazon is usually good to deal with but sometimes things get screwed up, and occasionally misrepresented.

Why wouldn't it be safe?
I have bought several Spyderco's from Amazon with zero problems, I have never had Amazon screw up an order, trust me I have bought a lot of stuff from them over the past several years.
Why pay inflated prices if you don't need to!?

Purchasing direct from Amazon is pretty much issue-free with superb customer service.

However, purchasing from Amazon's third-party merchants/vendors is a different story. IMO - the quality of those vendors can vary rather drastically. Because fulfillment is not carried out directly by Amazon, I personally treat those transactions a bit differently.

Agreed, I buy all sorts of stuff from amazon including my Sage 2. I just make sure its directly from Amazon.

I've bought a number of knives from Amazon including several Spydercos, and never had a single problem.

I usually only buy items marked "Ships from and sold by Amazon".

Amazon is always worth a look for common items. The prices are generally very good and you occassionlly find real deals. Add to that free shippinig and the bottom line price can be pretty attractive.

If you do have a problem, you can exchange or return it easily with no return shipping costs.

I read from one of the reviews in Amazon regarding the Spyderco Sage2 that the first Sage 2 he got was used, and that made me worry?

Is this likely to happen?

Or is this (hoepfully rare) occurrence just as likely to happen with the traditional knife online retailers such as Knifecenter?

Oh, I live in a country where returning to Amazon is not an option because of the cost of return so I really need to get the item right the first time..

And I just recently saw that Knifecenter does not ship to New York State (and I presume this includes New York City unless it is an exception)..what other online retailers like Knifecenter don't ship to New York State (and City)?

I know many people who like Amazon, but I choose to only buy directly from a dealer that I can call on the phone if there are issues.

amazon has never treated me wrong when purchasing a knife you can track your package on there website and most of there knifes or other items come with free shipping and they say it takes 5-7 business days but most of my orders got there within the 5 days

I've bought a Military, Caly 3, and an Endura from Amazon. Make sure you're actually buying it from them and not a reseller. It should have free shipping if it's from Amazon. They are 100% legit and have a fantastic return policy. My Military had an off center blade and they sent me a replacement before I ever shipped mine back. They also paid for the return shipping. Great service.

The problem is actually with New York City itself, and the rest of the state is being painted with the same brush. The District Attorney of NYC is trying to make a name for himself by declaring basically any folding knife that can be opened with one hand an "illegal weapon", and has confiscated a bunch of stock from retailers.

don't buy from amazon. i bought a delica from them and it came with 1 washer, and the edge was dull. i bought from "amazon" the dealer.

That changes things quite a bit. If you want a near 100% guarantee that your knife will be right the first time, you need to buy from a dealer that you can communicate with by email or preferably phone and that is willing to inspect the item before shipping it. (Not something Amazon can do.)

No dealer I know of routinely inspects every item before shipment, but many are happy to do it for you if you ask...it saves them and you hassles.

New Graham Knives and Knifeworks will be happy to do it. I'm not sure about KnifeCenter, but I would guess they would...they are an excellent company.

Direct from Amazon is a good way to go. I've bought a few from them.

3rd party Amazon sellers can be "hit or miss". I've had a couple screwed up buys through Amazon from other sellers, but no problems with Amazon themselves. And you always get your money back from Amazon when there is a mistake.

But I recently got an Endura ZDP-189 for $10 less than ANYONE through Amazon. It came perfectly and is my new EDC at home.

With knifeworks for example, at what point do I contact them for the inspection of the shipment? Before making the order? After? And will they actually check it if only contact them through email?

Anyway, with regards to the topic, seems like there are isolated cases of problems with Amazon, which though isolated, is still something to worry about.

More experience of you guys buying Spydercos with Amazon would be great.. Thanks
