Is it practical to edc a fixed blade?

Picture 72.jpgIMAG1329.jpgI carry a fixed blade everyday....recently I had Mike Sastre at River City Sheaths make me a Southern Comfort Sheath for my Trailmaster so it's IWB instead of confined to my belt.
I made a leather one for my other tm in the style of the Southern Comfort...
They work well with all types of style clothing.
There are many times that a fixed blade is needed in my weekly travels and it moves with the body whether I'm driving, walking, sitting or riding the motorcycle..
I think it's very practical for me..
Not one person has ever complained about it that I know of.

I carry a small fixed blade horizontally on my belt every day as well as a folder in my pocket. I find it so much easier to use it one handed, dont get me wrong I love my folders but I really prefer a fixed blade for edc.

I carry my kabar 2 inch TDI almost everyday. Hook the sheath in my jeans watch pocket and I can pull that knife out under 1 second even with a winter jacket cover the pocket. I practice pulling the knife out while tensing up my body so that I may able to do same thing even I am under stress.

Hello!

I carry fixed knives on a regular basis. My personal preference are cross draw sheaths for medium sized ones. This is my latest example that will go into edc mode these days.

Sits on the side of my hip just high and low enough not to interfere with any kind of movement I usually do.

Best regards,
Alex

I find carrying tying a loop to hang the sheath off my belt from the front-left if my hip to be theost confortable.

Also, its a Mora I do that with, so virtually weightless/unnoticeable. Dangling is the best

I've carried fixed blades as neck knives, especially in the summer months, and also found horizontal carry to be comfortable when sitting. I've carried a CRKT Companion under my left arm at my side. I've found that to be the most comfortable way to carry a fairly heavy knife in winter months. I can get it out from under a heavy coat easily.

If it's legal, go for it! There is no better ambassador for knife rights than a sane, reasonable person carrying and using a knife in a safe and responsible manner.

Keep in mind that policies supercede laws; although it's legal for me to open carry, hospitals, workplaces, public buildings, parks, businesses etc. all have the right to restrict knives (fixed or folder) from being carried on their property. Please be respectful of that, and be prepared to lock your knife in the car when needed.

Horizontal sheaths, as well as dangler sheaths, are becoming more and more popular... not to mention neckers. I carry a 4" fixed blade all the time in a regular sheath on my hip and have zero comfort problems. A smaller person might.

Overtly carrying fixed blades raises eyebrows when you are around people.

Apparently that depends on where you live. I've been carrying openly for years and have never been hassled.

I personally EDC a BK9 and have since July. Comfort is quite good after the first couple of weeks and you let your body adjust to the way the weight is dispersed across your belt and your back.

Getting in and out of the car and whatnot, once you become accustomed to its presence, it's quite easy. It's situations like that when the factory sheath is greatly appreciated as it doesn't ride high enough to jab you in the ribs.

I bought a Strider DB w/PD#1 for the sole purpose of adding it to my EDC rotation. The Kydex sheath that comes with the DB carries in your front pocket easier (thinner) than many of my folders and this gives me a knife that I can use to things that I wouldn't do with most of my nicer folders. I say go for it.
