Is it safe to order a Dobruski? I want one so bad! But I don't want to take any chances when it comes to $350.00. If the first order works I will order plenty more. Has anyone ordered one?

At the risk of sounding like a cock... are you for real? Have you read any of the threads in this forum? Sorry, just in a b!tchy mood today, but you sure did ask a naive/newbie question.

Considering they are probably one of the best Bali's made nobody ever talks about ordering or receiving one. Last I remember people were posting that it was a risk. I know if I got my order in I would be very happy and telling everyone about it. P.S. Yes you are being a cock. :D

Yes, I know. :p The answer to your two questions are no and yes, in that order. Importing something that is restricted (i.e. balisong) is never "safe", even if it gets past customs. And there are PLENTY of people who have said they have Dobruski's.

Wasn't that bad... but they were still stupid questions for someone who's been around for six months.
:D :D :D ;) :p :p
...b!tch, b!tch, b!tch. I can feel the onset of finals week creaping up...

I got one a couple of months ago. The case currently seems to be that if you live in a state where butterfly knives are legal, you have little to worry about. If you live in a state where they are illegal, customs has been using that as an excuse to steal them. You can get around that by having the knife sent to a friend in a legal state, and having them forward it to you via UPS or some other non-government operated carrier.

Great knives. Incredible really.

For what it's worth, I sent my CB#24 back for a little latch adjustment, and I live in one of those bali restricted States. That show show you my faith in them. As for the ones that got "lost", if I remember correctly, Mauro and Dobruski had promised to replace them as they felt it was their fault for not realizing the severity of the California Customs Agents zeal for a contriband-free America. How's that for customer service.

Andrew: Cut down on the caffiene man, you're already nervous wreck. I hate to see you in 2 weeks at this pace. :D

The funny thing is, I don't even have finals! But these damn undergrads that I live with are all wigging out and its rubbing off on me. That, or I'm just used to being stressed out at this time of year.

Even if there is a slight risk, think of the rewards!!

:) :D

Need to be discreet when discussing customs or other legal issues.

Bladeswinger, you have mail.

Thanx for all the replies, I feel more confident in getting one. I feel the Dobruski is the best Bali on the market IMHO.:)

why's that? is it 'dangarous' or something in any way? cause i have a couple of custom & legal issue questions i'd like to ask... shouldn't i?

Importing Balisongs into the USA is illegal no matter what state you live in. Some states check incoming packages harder than others. This is also a public forums so telling someone you are ordering one or just received one is admitting to a crime. Anyone that views your posts has a record of your actions. This could be used in court should someone for some reason decide to take you down. If you need to know how it works, contact Blues here on the forums. He works for customs in FL and knows what he is talking about.

Ordering a balisong from Dobruski to be imported into the US is illegal. You take a risk in doing anything illegal so keep that in mind.

where does the dubroskis come from? brazil or something?

www.taymo.com. Yes they come from Brazil, simply because he, Mr. Dobruski, lives there. Norway isn't the only country that bans importation of balis....

ah, so the us bans import of balis, but accepts export? yeah, that makes a lot of sence... ;)

so when a bali is sent from usa to another country, the package isn't checked before the other country's boarder?

Why wouldn't it make sense. Makes sense to try and stop illegal bad things from coming into a country, but once in the country, it's generally assumed to have been allowed there in the first place, so it goes out with no problems. Any export contributes to the US's Gross National Product, and helps offset the inbalance of our trades with foreign nations. The only restictions I know of for exports are US hard currency (anything over $10,000 needs to be declared), and anything that violates National Security (think weapons and high security computer components).

Even if you meant it as a joke, it still makes no sense to me why you posted that. Guess I just don't get it.
