Is it the 3 or the 4 that's the essential ESEE?

I already have a HEST, Izula, 5, and a junglas. I'm looking to add another to the pack this week.

Is the 3 or the 4 the best all around esee?

Oh the 4 of course. Everything from fine work to batoning.

I originally held the 4 and 3 side by side and chose the 4. Surely no need for the 3 also. WRONG! Also have a 3MIL now.

You need a 4 first though.

i also am trying to decide between the 3 or the 4

I was in your shoes last year. I just couldn't decide. I wanted a good general woods blade. The 4 fit that role perfectly. It is a little more robust than the 3 so it can handle a little more use and abuse.

The 3 is an excellent blade as well just with a thinner, shorter blade. If I could only keep one knife out of all my knives it would be my 4. It is just a very versatile blade that is capable of most any task.

In the beginning when Esees where becoming easily accessible for me to buy , the first I jumped on was the 4. If I wasn't able to get all the others ( I eventually did) I at least wanted the 4. It is a tough, basic, no BS knife . Snaps really nice into the kydex it comes with.
Go for the 4 I say ! ;)

Just ordered a 4 from TKC!

I love my 5 but I want something smaller for easier carry, yet I wanted it to be bigger than the HEST. I can't wait till it gets here. It might end up being my favorite.

The 4 was my first ESEE that started the addiction and definitely my most used knife. Perfect balance between size and ease-of-carry and it's a great all-rounder. You'll love it

I think you made the right decision, between those two. Especially since you already have the HEST. The four is not much larger to carry but the extra length does help out a bit in a woodland environment. In my opinion.

You can still carry that inside the waistband with a clip so it can be very concealable.

There was a time when I would have said the 3, but, with the convex edge and thickness of steel I have on my 4, it would be the one knife I would say is essential.

You'll have to get them both but I'd get the 4 first. I've had mine on my belt every day since I got it whether I'm in town or out in the woods.

i like the 3 personally.

what is a thread without pictures? ;)

I, along with most others, would go with the 4. The izula can handle the small tasks (for now). The 4 will give you more options of use.

Easy, it's the 4. It does it all, it's made like a brick. As said, it'll do fine work real well. It does batoning real good. Rumor has it that the 4 is capable of doing work fine enough to split atoms (It's the big secret of the scientific world.) Also, the grand canyon was made when some crazy yahoo decided to try and baton the world in half, thankfully the 4 just wasn't up to the job.

God bless,
Adam

Started mine with the Izula and i got to this point too, I think we all do :D

Which one is the most versatile and so on

One of my friend got the RC-3, so i had the chance to play with it a bit. I have a mini-commander that is similar in size so I am dropping the hammer on a RC-4.

Hope you'll enjoy the RC-4 :)

Cheers
