Is it the 3 or the 4 that's the essential ESEE?

I did a lot of research on lots of forums for which knife would make the best all-round bushcraft/utility knife. The ESEE 4 seemed to come out tops for my wants, so that was my first ESEE (joint-first, actually, with an Izula). Now that I have the 4, I find that I need the 3. I'm considering the Mil with serrations because my 4 doesn't have serrations and because, well just because.

I got the 4 in today from Dale at TKC.

Out of the izula, hest, 4, 5, and junglas, I can say without a doubt that the four is my favorite. It's the prefect size for most of my needs and the scales fit my hand like they were custom made for me. I like it a LOT more than I thought I would.
 
Cool beans man. Enjoy the new blade. The 4 is definitely a my favorite. The 4 and my Wetterlings helped cook dinner tonight and both did splendidly. If you got a set of Dale's slabs on that bad boy you've got a superb knife.

Can I order some of those g-10 scales for my 4 now or did I have to get them "married" to my knife when I bought it?
 
You can buy just the scales from Dale and swap them out on your blade. Go get yourself some and enjoy.

I started with a 5, then got a 4 and then the 3 so I'm working backwards. :D
 
I started out with the 3 and Izula and then got a 6. With what you already have, you should probably get the 4. The 4 would be bigger than the Izula and Hest and the 3 would be much closer to them. If you need a thinner blade though, then go with the 3.
 
4 and the Izula. The Izula for when I need "thin slicing" but I gutted my deer this year with just the 4 and I think it is THE knife to have on you if you are a hunter. Izula is great to have as a neck knife!
 
THE 4 THE 4!!!!!! I think the ESEE 4 is the best all around. It's a decent chopper and a great slicer. The 5 isn't too good at slicing, I mean don't get me wrong it will get the job done, but not as well as the 4. IMO the ESEE 4 is essential :)
 
I think the RC-4 is the perfect size. I pair that with the 6 and it's perfect all-around set. I usually grab for my 4 or my 6
