Is it time to improve the finish on Seki clips ?

OK ,

Decided to take measures into my own hands .

After a couple of hours of Stonewashing some Delica clips here is the results .

In this pic you can see Three clips , all are the same , but finished differently .

1 - Standard black painted clip ( scratches easily , looks secondhand after 14 minutes of initial carry time ). :)

2 - Standard painted clip that has been polished to 1200 grit wet&dry sandpaper ( looks very classy , but also very shiny ) .

3 - Standard clip that has been sanded , but then Stonewashed for a couple of hours ( very nice nice Matt finish , darker and less obvious / more discrete ),
Total success in my view .

4 - Not shown ( I have a second clip that is exactly the same as # 3 that I have soaking in Vinegar overnight to see if it darkens or Patina's )

My conclusion so far is " Total Success " and the only thing that could influence that for the better is the Vinegar experiment .

Plastic screw top jar , big handful of gravel , big long squirt of WD40 , tape the lid on with duct tape as insurance against it coming loose , wrap it up in a large towel , wrap tape around that , place in clothes dryer for 90 minutes to tumble and bounce around , explain to wife what your doing and that if you break the dryer you will buy her a new one . :)

Edit - just checked the clip thats been soaking for 8 hours in Vinegar , no difference at all so that was a waste of time . In future I'll just stonewash .

Ken,

Just burn it over stove. ;)
You'd love it. Till orange (same color throughout) then dunk into water.
Do similarly with the screw heads.
Won't be shiny at all.

Did you just use gravel from like a road or driveway? I tried this last night using gravel from my driveway. While the clip has a nice stonewashed finish it is not nearly as heavy as yours. I had it in there for around and hour and a half. How long did you leave yours in?

Yes i just used stones / gravel from a path at home , sorry I have no idea what sort of stones they are . I'm sure the quality of the stone must have some effect , I would think the harder the better .
One thing that I was told when I was researching this myself was to make sure the Jar is quite big .
You want alot of empty space in the jar so that the gravel and the clips get thrown around inside and each tumble causes an impact .
If there isnt enough room to freely move inside the items just role around instead of colliding with each other and you get a more polished look rather than a heavier stonewash .

So get a larger jar and / or maybe less gravel to create space inside ?

Goodluck .
