Is it worth it?

A friend found this shop grinder at a neighbors house about 75 miles from where I live. He sent me this picture. I have no idea what the brand or model is. He wants $120 and said it runs good but is very heavy. It uses 2X48" belts. Does anyone have any idea what brand or recognize the machine? Just by looking at the picture and price, would you think it would be worth the trouble to drive 70 miles to look at it? I know you can't tell a lot from a picture but just wanted a few opinions.

$120 is pretty cheap for a solid, functional grinder. Make sure it tracks well.

It would depend on the kind of car/truck you drive. Looks like a fairly good deal as long as it all works.

Here is another picture that shows the grinder and stand.

I have one that looks like it and it is made by Porter-Cable. I found it used and it is worth the money. Runs great and has a 6 in. serrated rubber wheel on it. Has a short handle on it at the top to pull down and change out the belt.

With the limited supply of 2 X 48" belts and since you already have a kmg. It would probably just be in the way. Kinda like my 1 X 44 it just never gets used.

Thanks Stan...That is kind of what I was thinking but didn't want to let a great deal get away if it might be of some use.

It looks like the stand will need to be bolted to the floor, but otherwise it looks like a good deal.

SBuzek,
Not sure where you get your belts, but every belt made by Klingspor comes in 2X48. (or 1X44, or any size you want.)

2 X 48 belts is a draw back, but..............it looks like it would be real easy to re-work it to take 2 x 72 belts.

Looks like a great deal, even if you leave it it as is.:D

I agree, get it and modify it to take 72 inch belts. You could lengthen the arm or better add an idler wheel. If you want to run it as a 48 give me a PM. I have some cheapo 48" belts from before I modded my first grinder into a KMG clone. They work for pretty good for scales. Jim

I thought it looked kind of like a blademaster, but I don't recall them coming in 2x48". I've never worked on one, but I understand they are on par with the Coote, just older.

If you decide not to get it, let me know and I may snag it if it's not too far from East Texas ;)
