Ok I see both sides more clearly after a little drinking....

When I first read i was like leave it up, but...........

I guess the problem with this is the potnetial problem with Taxes, sfety, security, etc...

When new system hit I wa like rest to run out and fill in as many as possible to have feedback, but I am starting to see is a complete list and inventory of my collection and its value

If the info is not going to be purged and it will last forever.....it becomes an inventory list that invites the IRS or thieves ( one in the same)lurking to .........

I am not so sure as to how much more feedback I will be leaving or asking for?

May be a mod can provide some input.....

May have been covered somewhere, but I ve been busy dancing with my Seagrams

Itrade would only would help a lazy thief. (Of the criminal or Fed variety.) A slightly motivated thief, prior to Itrade, would simply do an Advanced Search for All Post by by Knife Hunter under the Exchange.

Nothing to worry about IMHO. 'Course, your responsibility is to worry about *you* and myself, *me.*

If I were to worry, it would be that more HOGs might be pestering you for the piece you have that they want. Then again, I don't mind the PMs.

If you're concerned about it, do your deal offline - don't post in their sale thread, but PM. Ask the seller not to leave feedback. In that case, you might lose to someone else if the thread poster indicated first I'll Take It in the thread - I usually do it that way.

Ultimate Solution? Become a uber-stealth HOG and never post here. There are several under this category. Your concerns would still hold water every time you post a pic of your INFI and an excited "Look what came today!!"

I kinda agree with ya.But for differant reasons. Not sure what the numbers really prove. If somebody doesnt want to sell to me cause I dont have any next to my name thats fine. My money will just go to somebody else. I know Im not a thief or a scoundrel and dont need a number to prove it. Its not like somebody is gonna ship a knife to me without payment first ,either by paypal which is instant or MO which is guaranteed so whats the point.I havent purchased from anyone other than a dealer yet and Im not a seller either so there is really no value in it to me there. I dont need to go back and make sure I get credit for every little transaction Ive ever made. People who have dealt with me know Im honest. Ill be just fine if my number stays right where it is. Im not judging any one who needs to show how big there number is. If its important to other people thats fine . Just isnt to me.

edit: I would rely on the GB&U though as other peoples input on a seller would effect how eager Id be to buy from them. Im not about to send my money to someone blindly. Im just not gonna base it on a number.Thats why Id prefer to buy from the source. If I want a Busse, I buy from Scott/Vicki or Jerry; when I want a Fehrman I buy from Eric Fehrman... very low risk that way.

It is early in the inception, so my view could change in a year or two.

I am, oddly, more concerned about buyers than sellers. I guess I'm more concerned about the stress of someone being unhappy who I've sold to than me being unhappy with a blade that I purchase.

If it is international sales, where I'm shipping over borders, difficult to track with the possibility of customs shenanigans, a number next to the post would make me feel better. It might even make the difference between whether I would sell to someone in, say, the Pacific Rim. (Great deals with Dick and Santi - those guys are awesome!)

A number next to a name would make all the difference in whether I would trust them in a Passaround I was personally doing. Currently, I've got close to $1k out in INFI for a passaround. I feel VERY comfortable with the group involved.

Purely domestic sales? The Itrade would mean little to me. I would be more concerned about looking them up in TGB&U to see if they've been involved in some emotional tantrum tirades before. For good or bad, I probably wouldn't sell to either.

Buying? It depends, I guess.

This isn't supposed to be a replacement to TGBandU - only a quick supplement. If you haven't used TGBU to search for someone before buying or selling, I might recommend it. It might save you some heartache.

I traded with a fellow Azzkikr, and he was based in Saudi Arabia.

I sent him my Emerson Combat Karambit and DVD which I bought direct from Emerson, so it set me back a ton of money.

Two days later he gets banned from BF for being a scammer. in my own stupidity I didn't research the person before sending my piece.

Now I vowed never to trade again unless I see over 500 posts and a gold membership, but iTrader makes it unnecessary. as long as the person has got a couple of counts, and you can check the threads to see the value of their business.

I think its an idea that is both good and annoying. but I don't think it will have any benefit for thieves unless they know your screen name and physical address.

and the taxman can bite my bottom.

I really think it's a BAD idea! There's people on here that have been here 1/4th the time as I have without half of + GBU feedback but already have more + points than me so what does that tell ya! Personally I don't care how many points you have I'm going by time,+ postings, and GBU!

I find that it is a time intensive hassle to try and track down all my threads and members deserving points. . . I wasted some time doing it, and have decided to give up. too many threads and people.

Like the Chicklets, this system means little as far as greens go- but those in the red are marked and easy to avoid. Of course the fact remains that anyone ripping off another member is gonna get banned anyways.

+1 - I'd give chicklets if I could...;)

I think in general that it is a good idea.

If it had been in place the last 7 years I would look pretty good, as it is I have not bought, sold, or traded much for the last several years(well not related to this for sale forum) but am well enough known that I would not expect it to have much influence with the people that I would be buying, selling, trading with.

I hear THAT.

Hey, it's a quick reference, and I'm sure many will not consider the rating system the final word, so to speak... But like you said, I'll still be using those factors too, oh damn right!!! ...As long as there's still a GBU and 'post count'/'member since' reference, I'll still be checkin' 'em.
