Is itrader really a good idea?

If the info is not going to be purged and it will last forever.....it becomes an inventory list that invites the IRS or thieves ( one in the same)lurking to .........

I don't understand the IRS question.

Are you worried about them finding gains or are you worried that you have bought $40,000 worth of knives in a year but only reported $35,000 of income in that same year?

.

I like it but it could be improved to allow only the feedback to be visible to members.

Spark could keep the sale thread reference, and the accompanying knife purchase information, in his file. That would take care of the privacy issues surrounding collection information and money spent on INFI.

One thing itrader can help with is to possibly dissuade deadbeat buyers.

For most people, their word is their bond.

But there are a few folks that don't mind emailing you that "I'm running out of money and I can't buy your knife now" after you have waited a couple weeks for their money order.

I really don't care about amassing a big number. The only advantage I see is that it will help some of the non-paying members who don't have access to the Search function.

I think its a good idea. Lets people know if the person is a good or bad buyer/ seller.

Well not really, I think for now it could give a false sense of security, like I said you've got FNG's with higher points than some of the really longstanding standup people here. As I already stated, time, post count and feedback in GBU is a better measurer IMO.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but if you don't want the specifics of any given sale to be available for future prying eyes to be found, you can edit out the pertenant information you wish to remain hidden. if someone specific has quoted or reposted your information, you can p.m. or email them politely asking them to take out the sensitive material from their post.

I like having past sale amounts remain on the boards because it allows you to track pricing trends, but if your in a bind that would be way to remove information on the topical level.

I agree the GBU is better, but the itrader is not a BAD idea.

Great new deal .But how about stoping "I'm thinking about selling this " What a bunch of crap for pm selling .

I have to say I really hadnt thought about that. Maybe my earlier statements were a bit premature. I have had the opportunity to read a thing or two about the members here and have dealt with some personally. I believe that threw reading and interacting in the forum that I have gotten a good feel for the people that I would deal with should the need arise. That is indeed an invaluable asset that new folks might not possess. I will probably hold off further judgement for a little while.Let me see how this works out.

Well I disagree....

Let's say I wanted to sell this knife.

(I picked this one because everyone should know it isn't going to happen unless Hammy get drunk and wants to trade for the Bird & Trout. :p)

Anyway…. I don’t like selling a knife just to find it on the exchange next week for $X more that I sold it. I’d rather sell them for a little less and see them go to a guy that wanted the knife for what the knife is, not a thing to sell later just to make a buck. So I would either email guys I thought would be interested or fish the forum for a guy that I’d trust to buy the knife for the pleasure of owning it.

That is my opinion even if it sucks.

I think that post count/member since/GBU has a great deal of input. More than iTrader in fact. I'll take a 0 iTrader count with 6000+ posts over a new fellow with a couple of hundred posts and a high iTrader count.

its only been active for a few days.

after a few months, or years, it will be just as valuable (perhaps more so) as post count, membership duration, or gbu.

spark is simply adding another form of insurance for his membership.
