Is KA-BAR doing a bad job marketing Becker micarta scales?

They will fit the Brute, you just need to get longer screws. I've had them on every Becker that I've had that came with the Grivory scales; BK-1, BK-2, BK-3, BK-4, BK-5, BK-6, BK-7, & BK-9 ;).

My recent green micarta scales were a perfect bolt on to my Cammilus Brute with the original Camillus screws. The scales rock indeed.

IIRC, out of all the Micarta handles I've bought, they never come with hardware. I'm on my 4th set.

Have you had any trouble with original hardwear, bolting on correctly.
Did you have to use different hardwear on k-bar Beckers.

Nope, but I will tell you this, the nuts that are on my micarta scales, well, they ain't ever getting lost. When I put them on the first time, I cranked them dudes down, and now, they only will come out with some 22oz adjustment tools involved. BUT, I never have to worry about them getting lose and falling out. Honestly, I wish I could glue the damn thing is on my grivory, but I'm afraid I wont be fast enough , and the nuts will get glued in about halfway in.

I did not have to do anything different to put my micarta on.

try a dab of glue on the scale instead of the nut? That should limit contact until the nut is drawn down all the way into the pocket.

I'm going to buy a full-sized Kabar Becker soon and try the scales. Suckers are expensive though--twice what I paid for the Camillus verisons. But they do look a lot more contoured and similar in shape to the Grivory.

Thankyou for the info. I was misinformed.

please read the FAQ on the handles. let me know if any of this wasn't covered adequately... i may have to add length for screws per models, but typically you're going to be using your old hardware... unless you choose to upgrade to stainless or something else.

the old micarta from Camillus and the new micarta from KaBar intended for the larger Beckers (ie: not the neckers/etc), fit all models from Blackjack, Camillus, and KaBar, new or old, out of production, or in production. mix and match. end of story? or is this just the beginning?

prices : KaBar like most manufacturers is listing "MSRP" yes? dealer/street prices are based on markup from their cost, which reflects as a discount off MSRP. dealers are usually within some range, allowed to charge anything they want, including sometimes to sell below cost on some items to draw you in.

ever see the "prices too low to advertise"? that's one such restriction you'll see enforced by the supplier. what other dealers charge... that's market forces for you.

Do they still sell the old micarta from Camillus, if so were can I get some?

they?

it's no longer produced, and i think Guyon bought all known world supplies. it's generally no longer available unless you find some on ePray or very old stock (not likely).

doesn't seem to be marketed much except here, and world-of-mouth. i haven't been looking at trade rags a lot lately, but i don't recall a lot of KaBar ads in the past. full page spreads for other companies who sell $$$[$] products, but well, they can afford it right? or i should say, their customers can afford the prices :)

I also expected to see them offered as an option when the knives were ordered. As it is, we have to pay for both the grivory scales and the micarta in order to be able to get the micarta grips. Why not the option (either/or)?

This post says it best. There should be a choice , even if a micarta issued knife would cost a bit more. I just put the micarta on the 7 and 9 and the grivory scales sit there now, unused. They are good scales, don't get me wrong , but had I been given the choice, I would of saved money, time, and expense and been much happier having the knife I really wanted in the first place.

...or what the heck , just put micarta on the whole darn line up and be done with it !

I actually like the Grivory. Never really any complaints about it. However, a long while back, I just happened across a source for the old-stock Camillus micarta and bought all he had. I don't even know if what I paid was Camillus prices. The vendor might have just been clearing them out. They're good scales, but they aren't as nicely contoured as the KaBar micarta, which I think I'm probably going to like even better. Tomar's has an order coming from me in the new year.

I don't care for the Grivory, particularly after handling a Becker with Ka-Bar micarta. Now Grivory feels as slippery as goose squirt. I too am disappointed about the lack of micarta availability. My preferred vendor had a shipment and sold out. He may or may not be able to get more in late January. And now that Santa's hand is out of my pocket, I'm up for some more Becker's. However, I wanted to order the scales at the same time. This sucks as now I'll have to order from New Yok, It'll take forever and customs will try to penetrate my nether regions for the gubmint slice. It sure would be nice if Ka-Bar let dealers\distributors\vendors sell the scales as a Becker knife option. It's hard to go back after getting my hands on a set. ;)
