I get asked this question occasionally. Well, do I have a website for you guys! This website has the bearing numbering/nomenclature part number information for just about every bearing manufacturer that you're going to run in to!

Go to this website and look up the prefixes or suffixes of the bearing part number under the manufacturer of the bearing that you've had an opportunity to acquire. This will tell you what each part of that part number will mean.

I hope this helps those of you that wish to use 52100 steel for your knives.

Awesome stuff, thanks Scott!!!!

Scott identified the specs on a bearing for me... which left me with over 200# of 52100!

As most of you know, I'm a freak about not using something if I don't know what it is. Scott cleared it all up for me on the bearing.

The great thing, is the bearings are what I would start with anyway. I normally cut a 3" chunk of 1-3/4" roundstock to forge with, and these suckers are 2-1/2" long X 2" round!

Thanks again Scott!

It's my pleasure. I love it when a person is using a "known" steel, with confidence.
