Is my knife going to rust?

Recently I broke the tip off my Kershaw Stark Ridge. The steel is ATS-34, I decided to see what I could do with my Craftsman grinder. I grinded the broken tip into quite a nice shape and sharpness, the blade is just a little shorter now! My question, not knowing much about steel and the coatings applied...will this knife rust where I recently ground it any quicker than the rest of the blade?

I doubt it. ATS34 is reasonably rust resistant, few companies or makers put any coatings on for rust resistance or anything else except maybe Black-T for cosmetics.

BUT: I'm not a maker, somebody might correct me on this and I hope they do if I've got this wrong!

When you ground, I hope you did it a LITTLE bit at a time and avoided heating the steel? That'll reduce the temper and heat-treat and cause weakness and poor edgeholding.

The rougher the finish, the faster the steel will rust. If the part you re-ground is just as polished as the rest of the blade, then it should have the same rust resistance. If it's more polished than the rest of the blade, it'll actually rust slower. More coarse, it'll rust faster.

Beyond that, like Jim said, I don't think there's any coating on the blade that you need to worry about.

Thanks for the input and yes I did grind the blade slowly...more out of being careful than concern for blade strength. But I'm glad you informed me of this because I plan on tinkering with some home-knife kits. You mentioned blk ti finish, call me paranoid, but can you clean that off. In other words I'm afraid of overcleaning my mini socom(blk ti). I know these are probably dumb questions, perhaps we need a forum for novice knife enthusiasts, but I do and would appreciate any further info.
