I saw a karambit knife at my mates place and I feel in love with it. The only thing is he lives in the states and I'm from Canada, so Iv bee looking to buy one for a long time now. I'm not sure if the are legal or not.

Yes, they are legal here.
If it folds, just make sure it doesn't flick.

You can buy them in Canada from many places, at prices big and small, and quality ranging from awesome to total garbage.

Honestly I am not aware of a law that targets karambits anywhere, though non-English speaking countries I may simply be unaware of. Banning karambit potentially means banning a variety of common and essential farming and construction tools.

New York, since they have a "primarily weapon design"...go figure.

Ah ah not so fast. I said a law that targets karambits, meaning it names them or includes a description the targets them (i.e. possessing a curved blade sharpened on it's concave edge). Catch-all "dangerous weapon" laws don't count.

Also, I hate internet rumors. So I'm going to need to see some documented case law from NY about an arrest for a karambit wherein the reason for the arrest was the karambit's design and not based on NY or NYC's general prohibitions on knives. That is to say, if the arrest was because it was carried openly or had a blade >4" in NYC, it doesn't count.
