Is "real" Stag worth the difference?

I've got a Queen CBS Teardrop....the carved bone will definately lose that brilliant white effect sooner rather than later if your going to carry it regularly.....but you will never get the panorama of brown, carmel, smoke, tan and cream colors all swirled about like you will with nice stag. The CBS yellows....and takes on an eye catching "ancient" patina ! Personally I like the COLOR of beautiful stag more than its bark. Gnarly bark is definately eye catching.....but the variety of those colors I mentioned above is what really excites me about stag. The only minor complaint I have about Queen's CBS is that the bone seems to be cut a tad thin, and a tap on the scales often sounds hollow......almost plastic. Not a deal breaker by any means.....the Queen's are so well done in the fit and finish dept. . What ever you decide...not to worry......sooner or later you will probably get them all !

Jigged bone is a classic and wonderful knife scale material. But I draw the line when the jigging attempts to make the bone look like something it isn't. I love jigged bone and absolutely hate "bone stag" for this reason. I don't think it matters whether the knife is a user or a collector piece. You'll get more pleasure and more pride of ownership from the real thing. A good quality knife like a Queen will last you the rest of your life if you want it to. Why not have it be made of the real thing?

There is no doubt that the Sambar stag of years of ago looks (and wears) better than the European deer stag they're using these days, but the new stag still looks pretty nice. Don't you agree?

IXL Wostenholm. It's an English company. They either bit the bullet or got pretty close to it recently. The knife business in the UK is anything but healthy thanks to the restrictive knife laws they have there. Wilkinson Sword went out of business this year. I think they were a few hundred years old as a company. Really sad.

Thanks Guys. The Cargill is a bolster lock which might look at though it is falling apart to some. The stag is just as nice on the other side as well. This is the type of stag that you can't hardly find anymore. It is the real stuff. Not second cut, jigged, grooved or manufactured. So, is the price of stag worth the extra bucks? I guess it depends on what stag and how much???

TLC got me to thinking on this stag vs. cost thing. European stag, like this stuff, is cool looking and all but shouldn't be confused with India's Sanbar Stag. The Sanbar is the really pricey stuff due to the ban on it. I do believe that knife companies are just labeling THEIR version of handle material "stag" and charging us more for it when it is really bone or something else. Not really worth the extra bucks.
