Maybe a dumb question? A 15 year old wants to trade a pen and cash for a full size Microtech Stitch I have. I have bought many knives secondary but selling is pretty new to me. Part of me (big part) doesn’t see anything wrong with doing so. The other part of me feels it’s not my place, not knowing him or how he’s been raised. I don’t believe there’s any laws forbidding it, nor do I believe there should be. Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on this. Thanks for reading!

Dude ... I hate to bring up the state of the world.... But it ain't 1975. You're gonna end up on national news doing something like that. God forbid he takes it to school or worse. Itll come back and bite you.

Before anyone 💩s on me, no I don't think it's right and I think people are completely unhinged, but this is the world we live in.

Edit: I agree with everyone else. keep it above board and go through the guardians. Then you're ok.

I wouldn't sell, trade, or give ANY knife to a minor unless I knew their parents and had the parents permission. Even if it were legal to do so without parental consent. As already mentioned, too many risks involved. Like if the kid cuts himself really bad, needs surgery, etc, etc. You could expect a lawsuit.

Yeah, very true! Thanks for responding! Common sense seems to be coming into focus as “dumb as numb can be” blurs out.

Yeah, true true true. Thanks for response!

I've sold quite a bit on the exchange. I'm generally in the 'don't ask, don't tell' camp. However, I always have a disclaimer in the listing and being 18 yo Is one of them.... Generally starts with, you agree to the terms by requesting to purchase..... If they need to volunteer or ask something ridiculous, it's an automatic deal breaker.

Also, I personally wouldn't send an auto through the mail.

I would want to hear from his parents. Actually I’d want to do the transaction with his parents. Let them give it to him
Great answer! I just gave my nephew a knife for Christmas but I know him and his upbringing. Sometimes the obvious is shrouded. Thanks for feedback!

I’ve thought about putting some of my cheap knives out in a yard sale a few times, but I didn’t want to deal with worrying about carding somebody if they tried to buy one.

Good approach! I scanned through some selling to see if they had stipulated anything like that (I’m sure I’ve seen it multiple times in my own buys) but nothing current. Thanks for responding!
