Is Soligen steel any good? ID this knife (pics)

There's a lot of confusion here.... Solingen is a city in Germany with a lot of knife factories, but no steel mills. There is no such thing as "Solingen steel," but some cheap knockoffs made in Asia are marked "Solingen steel" to try to give the impression they're not cheap Asian knockoffs. The same applies to "Swiss steel" and "Sheffield steel."

As you say, no steel mills and that for the past 100 years. Today, I think only two knife factories left in the city and one of those quite small. all of the other brands have outsourced to spain or china

I was not thinking of kitchen knives when I wrote the above. Add one or two for Kitchen Knives. Almost the entire knife industry is focused in Taiwan and China. In the mid 1980s I saw many trays of blades in Secki City that were marked Solingen. You have to know that is now being done in China.
