is speed safe here to stay?

AO is not for me, but not everybody wants the same thing. AO may be here to stay, but only if makers and buyers lobby as hard as the nannies.

Honestly, Kershaw makes the only AOs that I'm interested in.

Depending on the knife, I might buy a AO spydie, but I honestly don't need them to make one and don't care if they do. I'll still buy their knives.

That said, I don't necessarily agree with the thinking that they're just a fad.

I am not sure when Sal said there were a fad, but please remember he paid a $400,000.00 fine and loss of merchandise for using the USPS to mail butterfly knives accross state lines after US Customs started an action against his company for importing parts to assemble them in the US. I am sure he was not happy about that and most likely would not want to test the AO waters in the legal area. I don't know why he was singled out by US Customs when China ships all knids of switchblades and butterfly knives illegally into the US fully assembled. I would have to guess this lead to the "fad" comment. I strongly believe tha AO system will be around for awhile as it has a great fun factor, and Kershaw has a quality product. Many states ( NY for one) feel they have already dealt with the legal question on these knives, since you can still flick them open, and therefore in the state of NY they are Gravity knives reguardless of the AO feature....

well i think the reason spyderco got nailed is simply they were in the wrong business at the wrong time. i dont feel they were singled out but rather made an example of. US customs could never go after the chinese knives. They will never stop them from being imported and to track down who is making them would be even a bigger problem. the only way they could catch the chinese garbage by comming in is by going after the retailers who support that kind of product. Unfortunatly there are way to many knife peddlers out there to keep track of.
