The person that told me this would definitely know but he didn't elaborate. I agree, prices should be going down but I'm not in on the board meetings to know what Spyderco reasoning might be. One thing for certain is Spyderco has a reputation of offering knives at the best value for the money. I don't expect that to change unless absolutely necessary for them to maintain their profit margins.
The term value means different things to different people, as does the term "money" in the context in which you used it. A few years ago the following knives were available at roughly these prices:
Military S30V, satin finish: $115
Native S30V, Satin finish : $55
Endura4 VG10, Satin finish: $60
Those same knives now are approximately $140-$150, $75, and $80 respectively. That price increase was recently completed in around 2012. Some commodities just do not decrease in price, regardless of what is happening in the market, with oil, or any other factors. Knives are one of them. The only thing that can make the price of a knife drop is having it made offshore with lesser quality materials. The overall dimensions, shape, and look are there, but the knife is just not the same.
Very true, however I hope this isn't another Benchmade move.
