Check this out. I polished it up to 600 sandpaper and then buff. No scrathces, but textile apeared after buffing. I'm sorry for my bad photos. I wonder can I use some kind ot 30 sec super glue to cover the textile that apears, and buff after again.
You didn't state which grade of Micarta you are using. Looks to be Canvas. You want a bit of the thread showing. It is makes it work as a polished, yet grippy material. That and it gives it depth, rather than just a plastic look. Mike
Yes, it is canvas micarta. But after buffing the little tiny holes apears where the fibres are crossing. Not everywhere, but it is irritating when looking on sunlight. I was wondering if SUPERBOND or some kind of instant transperant glue will fill them up. Someone tryed to fill scratches or holes in this way? Excuse my bad english, pls.
I am not a user of micarta (yet) but superglue works for small holes and cracks in wood, horn, ivory, bone. I would but a drop on the holes and buff it. Bey you holes are gone.
I'm with Mike Lovett. I used to buff my micarta much more than I do now, to the point of the "plastic look". Now I finish to 600, lightly buff, then go to the sink for a dishsoap-toothbrush scrubbing. It really makes for a nice looking handle. Much nicer IMHO, than a heavily buffed micarta.
Canvas doesn't buff well. You sure try some linen instead on you next knife or you could bust those off. For canvas you can really only sand it to 600 grit.
