is the 110 fine for a 14 year old

It's not too good and it's not too bad.....it's just right.

Start saving up for a custom 110 for his 18th birthday.

That will be a fun gift to give.

My father gave me a 102 woodsman when I was about 12 for camping. The good thing about a small fixed blade is that it can easily be seen and therefore not tempted to be used in the wrong manner. A 110 is still a great knife for that age too. I'm sure he'll appreciate it, specially if he likes outdoor stuff.

A 110 for a 14 year old is perfect. Not too expensive in case of loss or misuse, and a darn good all around knife.

I put a wicked sharp convex on my 102 woodsman. I could put a convex on, if you would like for free.

Here is mine:

now i collect the 110 and highly regard them as best for me ..
but i know the 112 is lighter and easier for many to use...
and it has a hook to help keep your hand from slipping down on the blade..
for a 14yo i would think if he is not large for that age
a 112 is a good consideration also!

You can't go wrong with either a 110 or a 112. Ideal knives for a 14 yo, or anyone else for that matter.

Gave the Grandson a near minty 112 for Christmas. Found one with his birth year tang stamp. A 1992 dash.....

And have found a near minty double dash 110 for his birthday. He was really interested in the year code tang stamps

I am 14 and I carry a 110 everyday. I am big for my age though most people think I am 16 or 17. I think a 110 is a great knife for him.

im planing on getting it for my 14 year old for his b-day. Is it to good, or to bad.

As for whether he should have a knife, if he hunts or fishes or camps, knows firearm safety and can handle a Remington 870, or runs around on the farm in a combine, then by all means.

If he paints his fingernails black, then no.

I do think the 112 might be a little better because of its size, but its no biggy either way. Either one of them will last forever.

Another vote for the Buck 112. This way he can always grow into a 110 :D.

Best of luck to you,
John

the lock on some 110's can be a little difficult to work for smaller hands. depends on how big your 14 yr old is.

When I was 12, my dad gave me a 110. Still have it and it's mint (60's). I think the 110 or 112 would be great for the boy. Heck, I would give him the 112 and in a couple of years the 110. Whether he uses them or not, he will never forget who gave it to him and treasure them for life. :)

I still have the 102 my father gave me in the late 70's and the 110 I saved for and bought myself the next year. Both are cherished old companions and have a ton of great memories to go along with them, especially the one from my father. Go for it!

I gave my son a mint 4 dot for his 9th birthday that I had found and bought. I kind of hated to give him such a fine knife. The sheath has a couple of scratches now, and the blade a couple of small dings from cutting the feet off a goose he had killed, on his own, btw w' a 50 yeard shot with a 20 gauge. I also field dressed a 6 point buck he bagged with it. Yesterday, he pulled it out, and said, "I'm going to keep this knife my entire life". He has probably 30 knives, but it is a well cared for favorite of his.

Get the 14 year old a 110.

Yes definitely, the 110 is a perfect knife for youths. Its a good solid knife, with a good sheath for little money. Youngsters tend to lose things, and the knife is easily replaceable.

When I was 14 I spent about every non-school hour with a Schrade LB7 in my back pocket. Yeah, definitely a 110 is a good choice for your lad.
