Is the AD15 to gimmicky?

Thinking of picking one up over a large voyager. But I fear I may find it more gimmick than anything else. One fear I have is dropping it because of it having basically two halves of a handle. Would the 15 make a good work knife?

I agree I rather have an AD10 than AD15 or Voyager. As far as the Voyager goes it's a nice knife but the blade is very thin at the tip and will probably break under heavy use. I have one and it's very thin.

I like the AD15's lock for one-handed closing. It's quicker than a Triad or back lock to get out, cut, put back. In that sense I don't find it a gimmick and do think it is a very useful as a work knife.

Don’t see it as gimmicky at all . Strong lock up , super grippy texture on handles , smooth , easy one hand opening . great s35 steel , solid , heavy duty knife with only 1 coil spring that should never fail or get weak . Not very expensive at all everything considered . If the tang were damaged by dropping u would still have a perfectly solid lock up , may just have to use two hands to open if a chunk was knocked out and u had to lift the yoke up off the tang .any knife could be damaged by dropping on concrete .I really think it’s a great ,no nonsense heavy use practical folder . Several options of opening and closing and completely ambidextrous. I like mine a lot

I'm sure many thought the first folder was a gimmick .

Likewise the first folder with a lock . ;)

Not a gimmick , but not going to cut stuff better than a Tri-ad lock knife , either . :)

I just got the AD15 lite for 75.00 shipped; how can you beat that ? The AD20.5 is twice the price, griv ex handles, its a sock puppet compared to this...

That's a pretty sweet deal good luck with it and have fun

The AD15 was the biggest surprise of any knife I've ever purchased. I liked it far more than I thought I would once I had it in hand. One of my favorite knives now.

Definitely not gimmicky. The only negatives are that the ad15 is heavy (like true Demko knives) and the scales are aggressive (I sanded down the clip side). Given those 2 things, this knife is incredible. The Scorpion lock is beyond solid, simple and remarkably easy to keep clean. I've used this knife for everything from the mild like cutting boxes to cutting 3 inch rope. This knife cut through the 3 in rope like butter - I couldn't believe it.

This folder is kick ass pure and simple. I ordered a 2nd one for prosperity.

That's interesting, I've been looking at a few different knives lately. I really like the looks of the AG Russell one handed knife with stag scales. But reading all of the posts in this thread, is making me want to look more into the ad-15. I could save $100 if I go with the ad-15. Did you ever wish you can handle a knife before you bought it? All I could go by is pictures and this forum.(which is the best information)I just wished I could handle one before I make a purchase because they're not cheap. But if it's as good as what I'm reading here I think I'm going to probably purchase one. In the near future.KC has the ad 15 in stock.

Definitely think it can handle hard use no problem. But one potential issue is that the blade tang and lock notch are exposed when closed, so if it were dropped just right onto a rock, concrete, etc it could mar the steel and possibly affect the action.

I sold my ad15 for this exact reason. I'd pick AD10 and voyager over ad15. Also, the scorpion lock tends to have vertical blade play than tri ad lock.

Since I started this thread the 15 lite has climbed to 135 dollars on the site that got me interested in the knife in the first place. So I guess I'll be sticking with the tri ad for now.

I got knives that I paid very little for that are worth a lot of money right now. There's nothing cheap left. Everything's overpriced
