Is the Benchmade Bugout the best knife ever?

For literally millions of years our ancestors only used sharp rocks as cutting tools. MILLIONS I say!

I submit that the best knife ever is rocks.

Most modestly priced production rocks tend to have hot spots and are thick behind the edge...but your mileage may vary :p

I think sharpened, pointy sticks would have to be the best kinfes ever.

Honestly i wouldn't consider the Bugout in my top 25 knives

i mean an original Ritter grip slays it

Top 25 knives..... I chuckle. I have absolutely no idea what my Top 25 knives would be. I barely can come up with 10. I certainly don't use 25 knives. I don't know if I have used 25 discreet knives in my life time. I'm selective as to what I use and generally stick with them for a long time.

I like the Bugout, I dont own one and wont get one, but I see where the appeal is. Its just not for me

I like the Bugout 535 but, I own a Benchmade 531.

I just can’t justify a Bugout right now. I might consider one if I ever lose my 531 though.

Is it the best knife ever? Nope.
It is a very very nice knife if you add Ti scales.

Hey, looky there! That's my Bugout! :D

And I will say, even though of course I agree with subjective, your mileage may vary, personal needs differ, yadayadayada... this year I've been tracking how much I carry which knives, and the Bugout is vastly, by far the winner. It's not what I would pick as my "favorite" knife, and definitely not my "if you could only have one" knife. But, for whatever it means, it IS the knife that finds its way into my pocket more than any other overall. That definitely says something.

And was it in my pocket today, you ask? Why yes, yes it was. Go figure.

Welcome to bladeforums! :)
The bugout is the greatest knife ever if the criteria for winning is "flimsiest handle". :D I dont like the funky plastic handle, its way too thin to be comfortable for me. Plus it has too much flex. I know, I know, its super tough stuff but I just dont like being able to bend the handle... It feels (and looks like a little bit too) like some cheap dollar store "knife" to me.
I also dont like super hard steels. I dont sharpen with power tools, I use good old stones. So super steels would take me hours to sharpen. Not to mention they can be brittle. I know, I know, Im wrong and Im an idiot for disagreeing with the super steel crowd yada yada. Just my opinion.
Last thing: theyre overpriced in my opinion. Benchmade keeps getting more and more expensive and they dont make any budget options anymore. :(
So, I am not a bugout fan. I can see why everybody likes them, but theyre not for me. Im glad you found a knife that works for you though, enjoy your new knife and the forum! :)
Sogs aus 8 and cold steels aus 10 is some of the best cheapest steel out there. There's allot of great other non super steals that are a close second. So I get what your saying.

A co-worker loaned me a mini grip to check out for a few days. I really liked it. when I returned it I wanted my own. So I went to the closest BM dealer to buy one last week. I ended up leaving with a bugout instead.
I would hesitate to say it's the best knife ever but I'm happy with it so far. Other than still wanting that mini grip...
Gotta have a Grip in your collection highly recommended.

I handled one at a knife shop and it was a big “meh”. I didn’t see the appeal at all. I also think it’s a concept that’s been done before, and better. Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks.
