They have HUGE similarities. Does this qualify as design theft?

The handle shape is similar I guess and it's similar size wise but that's pretty much where the similarities end.

Design theft or inspired?

I'd include more side-by-side pictures (front, back, side, etc.) as well as specifications and perhaps a simple Yes or No poll.

To me, there are similarities in the blade shape, grinds, handle shape... the most notable being the fact that the blades share a profile that upon first glance is immediately recognizable as an XM-18 profile

I thought they were very alike before, but now when i see them like this, the F3 doesnt look so similar. Tbh..
The handleshape isnt very similar. F3 has alot bigger and cooler pivot. The grinds are different, not alot maybe.
No stud on the F3.
And there are more things that are different..
Im not defending Curtiss, but to call it a knockoff is a bit harsh? Maybe its me who dont see it, but i dont think they are that similar as i thought for the beginning. :)

It would be a ripoff if it was made in China. :)

that's kinda what i was thinking too. If this was made in china and sold on AliExpress, EVERYONE would be calling it a hinderer knockoff, but because it's made in the US, and uses good materials, people don't see it that way

I got a hinderer and I love it, but I can't seem to get a F 3? Only here Great things about both of them.

They are similar but there are only so many ways to make a knife that is still functional.

I'd call it inspired. There are plenty of differences that I can see, and the most telling similarities are the Spanto Grind, flipper, and handle shape. Other than that, they have different lanyard holes, body screws, thumb ramps, stop pins, pivots, and swedges.

Not exactly, Americans are very capable of theft.

Ya, a certain "tiny"-tech ;)

On another note, the only similarities with the f3 and a hinderer is the rounded part where the two grinds meet, wich hinderer calls a "spanto" but i think the whole "spanto" idea shouldnt be something only he can do...
Also, the whole china only copy idea... No, china can just get away with perfect replicas, in america u have ro be smart in your copies... Unless your name ryhmes with fony :D ;) in which case you can copy anything and only piss everyone off...

Id like me that f3:)

Again, please remember that the bladeforums hive mind doesn't hate companies that copy designs (e.g. Microtech, Brous, etc.) unless those companies are Chinese. China, China, China or China--that's what you need for a good angsty "ermagerd they copied dis!" thread.

Seriously though, in this case that doesn't even apply--the bottom one is a lot nicer looking, so how could it be a copy? ;)
