Is the Doug Ritter Benchmade worth it?

The Ritter Mini-Grip IS very much worth it!! I highly recommend it.

If you can afford to get the Ritter, than do it. I bought a 556 and liked it so much that I bought the 558. I dont regret it and I do notice that it does hold an edge a bit longer than my 154 Cm 556.

If you dont plan on using the knife alot, than I would think a normal 556 would work fine for you. With the money that you would save, you could also pick up a sharpmaker!

Sir,

I don't not see you getting any better performance than the 154 cm steel. This steel is the best of all worlds. It is easy to field sharpen as S30V is a pain and does not come back to the hair popping sharpness imho and 154 cm is just a corrosion resistant and does not chip!

:D

i have two ridder grips and have never had any problems with chipping and the blade geometry is better than the 154 imho and mine shaves fine i think its becouse it has a flat wide cord blade it cuts rope cardbord meat tomatoes just about any thing you use a knife for like this for and just a few little passes with the spidy sharpmaker its like a razor again not arguing with any one but this is a good knife and Worth the money

I love my 154cm grip but for the price of the regular Ritter I would much rather buy a Spyderco Manix.

if you can find the M2 ritter cheaply then yes its worth it but i dont know that the price jump for the s30v is worth it over the 154cm as many have put it the d2 cabellas version

I purchased a combo edge black blade Ritter. Didn't use it much but was impressed with the blade shape, so I bought a mini Ritter for EDC. I cut up 4 Subway sandwichs with it over a period of 3 weeks (worked fine), and next time I needed it I noticed the edge chipped.

Sent it back to Benchmade, and it took over a month to get back - - just arrived last week. Came back with the same handles but unsure if the blade was replaced or reground. The new edge is quite toothy and had big burrs on both sides. An unimpressive experience.

I'll try sharpening it, at the very least to get rid of the burrs and put a finer edge on it. IMHO, I'd just as soon get a 555HG PE in 154CM for about $40-50 less.
