is the Izula a good knife?

If you are the kind of 15 year old like I was that lost, misplaced or destroyed more knives than I care to think about, then a $10 mora is a great knife. If you are looking for a knife to carry everywhere (including places you shouldn't) then again, get something cheaper. if you know what you like, and what you want from a knife and will take care of it, then yes an izula is a very good knife. I've paid more for less knife, that is for sure. all depends on what you are looking for. Go ahead and show your dad the warranty, maybe that's what he wants to know?
Second this post. There are some people who have no idea what it means to use a high end knife and will therefore think it's outrageous to spend the money. Then you let them use a knife like the Ken Onion Shun my dad has and you see the light bulb go off. Then there are others who will never understand and you just have to carry on regardless what they think.

I've still got my first Uncle Henry folder I got when I was a kid. (About 25 years ago.) I've also got a SAK I got when I was 16, a few years later--the blade on that thing is about worn through from a couple of decades of use and sharpening.

Take care of it and you'll have it forever, kid.

Not many things you can spend $50 on today and still have it when you are you're Dad's age.

Great knife, from a great company and made in the USA, the only thing i suggest is get 2 of them otherwise you wont have 1 after your dad gets his hands on it and he likes it too and realizes just how good a knife it is!!!!!!!

I'm just north of fifty and got my first Izula yesterday. I own and have owned hundreds of knives over the past 50+ years, but I can say without hesitation that this little puppy (or shout I say ant) is one heck of a knife for the money. It will be riding comfortably in my FR pocket for the foreseeable future! Thanks ESEE!!

The Izula is a great knife. Lot of them out there being used daily.

I don't know if you had other options but whan i orderd mine my other was the becker necker (BK11) i decided to pay a little more and get The izula, overall completly satisfyed and carry it very often.

I think back to when I was 15 and I would have loved an Izula. As it was, my dad would've never let me have $50 to spend on a knife so I spent about $9 on a Green River knife blade and put my own handle on it. So I did not lack for a good knife for lack of money.

I will say that I am a huge ESEE fan (I've got 4 of 'em now including an Izula). But everybody should also have a Mora in my opinion. For what it is worth a Mora is a very good knife at a very good price. No warranty at all that I am aware of but I have not broken one either.

You cannot go wrong with any ESEE product...period. But if you've got budget constraints as I did 37 years ago, the Mora is a good route. Show your dad (If he is the source of funds) that you can take care of the $15 Mora and he'll be more likely to fund the $50 or $100 ESEE later...that's how it worked with my old man any way.

have dad buy you a 2$ gas staton folder, then cut up an 8' 2x4. take him the broken pieces, explain that a two dollar knife lasted you an hour. that's 48 bucks a day! the izula will last at least two days, so it's obvious what the better deal is.

HA! HA!.. I like that!

Note that the OP said his Dad asked why it's a good idea for him to spend $50 on a knife. That may not necessarily mean, 'Is an Izula worth $50?' I think someone correctly offered the observation that our younger knife collectors may abuse and lose a knife (or a lot of them), and $50 is a lot of money if you're not going to keep track of it.

That said, I am the father of a 15yo (and a 17yo and a 20yo), and I've given my 17yo son more expensive knives than the Izula. He takes care of them and uses them responsibly, so I don't regret it for a minute. He's only cut himself once and has been very thoughtful about using a knife since.

That said, I will offer an observation on the question asked, and say that spending a little extra on a quality product, made by a quality organization, is always worth the money. Knives that are cheaply made are not only frustrating and disappointing for a knife user/collector, but if you attempt to use them and they are not up to the task, they can be dangerous.

I have had cheapo knives since I was 6 I have learned responsibility with them lost a couple and learned not to loose them. My dad just isn't a knife person and doesn't understand why a good knife is worth spending the money on. I work btw I can buy the knife easily, but my dad just doesn't understand. I still love him though :)

As mentioned before...as for your father needing to know why it is a good idea to spend the money that depends greatly on your own maturity level, habits, and personality which I know not.

As for the knife being worth the $50.00...I have one as the fixed blade in my minimal "last-ditch-gotta-bail" kit. When asked by a close friend and student if I had a small knife that could really be trusted in a rough situation that she could have for hiking and camping I gave her an Izula. I see both of our @$$es as being worth a whole lot more than $50.00. The Izula is a great small knife.

The Izula is such a great a knife! Here are some examples of why:

*MADE IN THE USA
*A LIFETIME warranty
*Made of premium materials and top notch craftsmanship
*Small enough to carry on you as your everyday blade
*Large and strong enough to keep you alive in a survival situation
*Over 10,000 Izula's sold...

If you go the ESEE web site and look at the photos you'll find pics of the Izula in the field being put through the paces.

It's a good/great little knife that goes everywhere with me! It's my go to knife it's my spoon maker, it's my sheet rock cutter, it's my steak knife and it's my life line if in need for a good strong sharp blade. Love it.
Just take care of it and use it!
